02 runner 0440 code

I have an 02 SR5 and i have the 0440 code and i took it to the dealer and they said it was gas cap so i replaced it, it came back, so i took it back they did a smoke test, said its leaking out the gas cap, so they put a new one on tightend up and a day later it came back on i called them they said they have no idea, i can clear the code and a day later it comes back on no mater what i do. please if any one has any ideas on what i could do, try, or how to fix it from expierence please let me know, only other idea i have is the filller neck is the prob, and a new one is $250. thanks for any and all help.

It could be the charcoal canister. I've been told they can go bad if you pump gas/fill up until the pump shuts off automatically. I guess a little gas gets in the canister when we fill all the way up. I hope it's not the canister as they are expencive. The good news is you truck will drive fine. My friend had to replace his canister to clear the 440 code.
