Holy Crap
This is a long thread!!! I got a headache halfway through page 2!
I think the point that needs to be made (and forgive me if someone has and I didn't read it b/c of the pain in my head

) is it's call Hill ASSIST for a reason, not Hill BRAKES.
The system is there to slow a roll as you're transistioning from brake to gas on an incline, not hold the vehicle there b/c your not on either pedal. It slows a roll waiting for you to ease into the gas or back on the brake. ABS blinks as you roll because it's pulsing the brakes. If you pop the gas a little too much, with all that torque, the tires will spin and the traction control (light) comes on. The ladder system is VERY conservative in my opinion, and is too sensitive and activates way too fast. I even commented on it in my Toyota survey.
Sidebar: In some cases I think it dangerous; with all the sand on the ground, accelerating into traffic can be slippery and dangerous. The traction control kicks on but stays on too long and reduces my power while I'm trying to merge. Not good. I found easing into the throttle when this happens deactivates the system quicker allowing me to get back into the throttle.
That video does show a slight roll before the gas is hit proving it. Besides it a dumb animation not a real video.
I have a steep grade right outside work and I tried this system the first day I got it. Aside from the ABS clanking and the
slow in roll, the system did what I expected. It slowed me from rolling to quickly backward while I went from brake to gas.
Seriously though, why would you be off both pedals for a length of time where you thought the roll you felt was dangerous? The system is assiting you. You're still the driver. So drive.
