03 O/D button?

Sorry for this noobish question. I use to own a 93 4Runner and whenever I took it to the mountains I would turn off the O/D by pressing the button on the shift selector. Now, I own an 03 4Runner and plan on taking it to the mountains. My question is, where is the O/D button? Does it automatically turn off or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

There isn't one.

If you have a V6 you have a 4-speed transmission; if you have a V8 you have a 5-speed transmission. "Overdrive" is just the top gear -- if you don't want the transmission automatically selecting the top gear while you're in the mountains, then just set the shifter to a lower gear. The transmission will shift between gears up to the top one you select.

Thank you, JHarris! I do have a V6 with 4speed transmission. I thought shifting to a lower gear was only used to help slow the vehicle down during downhill drive?

There is no OD Off button anymore. Any gear over a 1.0:1 ratio is overdrive. So in your case just shift out of 4th gear as that is overdrive.

OD is a lock up torque converter, you used to be able to lock it out with a button, now on these if you wish to lock it out, you got to d3 or d4 depending on how its marked.

Overdrive "on" would be 'D'. Overdrive "off" would be '3' for the 4-speed transmission.

The TQ can be in an unlocked or locked state in either d3 or d4.

Your right, I neglected to add that the OD button, just locked it out
