03 V8, do I need to use 91 gas?

I have an 03 V8, Is there any performance diff btwn 87 & 91 oct gas? Thanks. I only used 87. My friend told me SUV don't need 91. Is that true?

It is recommended that you use 91 octane fuel. However, it will run fine on regular.

Page 242 of your owner's manual has all the details. The back cover also has a bit of information.

87 octane is fine for either the V6 or V8.

This question is covered in the owners manual. 87 is fine. The manual says "FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE" to use 91. Save your money!!!!!!! ALL the experts agree if a vehicle can run on 87 it is a waste of money to use a higher octane.

Not only is there no differance in performance, but my milage doesn't change either up or down regardless of the octane.

Waste of Money

Something is combustible, such as gasoline, because it is in the right proportions as a fuel and has an oxidizer present to ignite from a spark, which is like a car running on gasoline. Gasoline obviously combusts in the proportions of 87-93 (ratings) and probably even higher and lower than that but I would dare say you see little improvement in performance or gas mileage to make up for the cost of paying 0.10 - 0.20 more per gallon. Some folks will scream up and down that their car runs better and they get better gas mileage, but lots of folks are cured from illnesses by placebos (sugar pills) all the time. I think most of it is in their head!

Don't waste your money on higher Octane fuel for a daily driver! Maybe in your race car...

On a recent trip to Chicago, I tried a few tanks of 91 -- no noticeable difference in performance or mileage. Went right back to 87 octane.

this may sound wierd, BUT, when i run 91, sometimes i get less mileage.....could be lots of factors because when i changed back to 87 i just got an oil change...but would that account for almost 50 more miles in a tank...before oil change i got 270, after i got 320....but i've stuck with 87 and consistently get 19 MPG..

Just to be sure, did you test the same brand of gas? There is one station here where the gas causes our Camry to get 10% worse mileage than any other station I've tried. Tested several tankfuls to make sure it wasn't a fluke.
