04 4Runner hood struct replacement question

Hi there,

Both hood structs on my 04 4Runner need replacement. The dealer is asking $400 for the job. :wow2:

Amazon sells StrongArm 6228 Hood Lift Support for Toyota 4Runner for $23.6 each. It got a few good reviews.

Does anybody here have experience with this after market struct? Is it easy to DIY?

Do NOT pay the dealer $400. I haven't had to replace mine on the 4Runner yet but I've used that same manufacturer struts for my wife's jeep a couple months ago. Took me about 10 minutes to replace both sides. It would have been 6 or 7 but I had to look for my flash light to see inside my dark garage.

All it takes to actually change them is a flat head screw driver. Since her hood struts were shot I used a 2x4 to hold the hood up while I changed them 1 at a time.
 
How the hell are they justifying $400? I could MAYBE see them asking $30-40 a strut (dealer prices) and something like at most .3~.5hr of labor. They're hood struts for ***** sake.

Just get the parts and do it yourself; its crap like this that makes it harder for good dealerships & service shops to get customers and repair work. Ugh...
