'04 4Runner Sunroof problem

Cause is due to the grease hardening. This can cause the sunroof to start to drag and eventually it will get our of line on one side or the other.

The TSB points this out and makes sure to tell Toyota to relube everything. However it's interesting to note that after 03,04,05,and 06 Toyota didn't find a different grease to use.

EXACTLY! It's because the Toyota uses the white lithium grease and it gets HARD. I used a Q-tip soaked with alcohol to remove most of this white grease. Then I re-lubed the sunroof's aluminum track, black plastic lift points with the same type of grease I use in my ball joints or U-joints. Place a small amount on the end of a Q-tip and then place a very thin layer to these areas. The grease will spread over the track in the summer heat. I've done this every year for the past three years and my moonroof works perfectly. I repeat this process every spring (March) here in CA. Some of you up in the high northern area of the USA may want to wait until late April.
