04 Limited Nav unit iPod input options

I know this had been discussed over the last10 years, but I recently bought the ipod adaptor off Amazon and it didn't work. It plugged into the back of the unit fine, but it doesn't function. This one : http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CF...200_QL40&qid=1404841510&sr=8-1#ref=mp_s_a_1_1

My Runner does not have a cd changer, it has the rear stereo control buy no changer. My JBL stereo model number is the 17010.

Ultimately the solution is to upgrade the stereo to a modern unit, but I'd like to get some use out of this one for a while. So my question is, who had successfully done this?

What the product description doesn't mention is if it's compatible with JBL equipped radios. That's very important to know. Also, what gen iPod (or iPhone) do you have?

I know there are products that "integrate" your iPod with the radio. But those costs much more (check out isimple/mediabridge/USA spec).

You get what you pay for I guess...........
