05' Fuel Door will not close, Eng Check Lite On

I've seen a few posts related to fuel tank vacuum and the engine check light but does anyone know why my fuel door won't latch?

Never a problem, then today, I run the tank nearly to empty, notice my engine light on, thought it was just time for the oil change. . . get gas and no hiss when I open it.

Finish fueling and put the cap back on, close the latch at it wont grab. Weird. I'm guessing the two are connected somehow?

Also, it seems like the cap doesn't really want to seal or something, it's weird. Since there's nothing really to cross-thread on the cap, not sure why it wouldn't be sealing.

I ride a motorcycle most of the time to keep miles off my 4R, so it's not like the cap is getting tons of use, in other-words, I fill up maybe once a month or so.

Any ideas? Of course, I just paid it off last month, so this seems to be Murphy's Law working at some level.

Put a little 3in1 on the hinge and it closes ok now, I'm thinking the plastic keeper cable connecting the cap to the truck may have worked it's way into the hinge spring mechanism and caused it to misalign the fuel door? Not sure. I'm stopping by the dealership tonight to see the fuel door on a new 09. Are they supposed be completely flush? Mine is not. Wondering if it was bent out due to that cable thing.

I'm not sure this explains the engine check light, maybe that's something completely unrelated.

Still, I'm not sure how the cap felt when I've unscrewed it before. Funny how those little things you just never seem to notice cause you to second guess yourself.

If the fuel cap isn't on correctly, you'll get a DTC code and the Check Engine Light will come on. The EPA makes the car manufacturers keep a tight control on fuel vapor emissions, so the car is very sensitive to vapors escaping from the fuel tank.
