'05 TSB PDF's Right Here!!!

There is a TSB for the flutter. It's huge, 25 pages and when I tried to post it, I received a message saying that the file was too big. If you want, PM me your email address and I'll forward it to you.

Thanks for the TSB's. Would you happen to know where I can get the ones for the 2005 and up Toyota Tacoma tailgate?

I took a look for the drive train clunk. I have that problem too, and have not been able to find a TSB about it.

I also looked for the Tacoma Tail Gate and found one, but it is took big to post here. PM me with you email address and I'll send it to you.

My subscription ends at midnight tonight, so I don't think there is much more that I can do.

I don't believe there is a TSB for the 4runner on this issue...my drive shaft was replaced under the Lexus TSB...come to find out...the rear suspension between the 4runner and GX470 is slightly different (according to my service advisor that the local Toyota dealership). The full Lexus TSB involves replacing some of the suspension components along with the driveshaft.

To be honest, the clunk is still there, but not as pronounced as it was originally.

This might be of some interest to you and others...

The driveline cluck Lexus TSB is DL001-04.

Apparently, Lexux also has a TSB for steering wheel vibration and/or front driveline drone...ST004-04. Not sure if it is the same as the one for the 4runner...

Well, took my 4runner in for service and to have the TSB for steering wheel vibration/flutter looked at...of course, they said they couldn't find anything wrong...but they said that it is documented and they rebalanced all 4 tires under warranty. They basically said to give that a try for a while and report back if I still have the issue...we'll see...

Oh yeah, one of the service reps saw that I had a copy of the TSB...asked me if I owned my own shop??? He was surprised that I was able to get a copy of it...

I had some what of the same reaction from the service tech as well when I took mine in for the Sulfer TSB.

I had the Sulfer TSB done for an '05 V8. The total bill was crazy. 2 new cats at something like $990 a piece. Problem is that it didn't fix the problem. Stomp on the gas with the rear window down and it smells like crap.

Not sure if I should follow up and complain or what. Has anyone else had any luck with the sulfer fix not taking and had the dealership come up with anyother solution?

I have the same problem. Had my sulfur smell fixed (so I thought) and didnt do much of anything. Did they reflash your ecm? They didnt do mine and said it wasnt part of the tsb.

No they didn't flash the ECM. It's not listed in the 05 V8 Sulfer TSB.

I did take a closer look at the work order and I noticed that the part numbers listed on the work order are the same as the old part numbers that where listed to be removed and replaced.

The TSB states that the old parts are still available and are currently being used in other vehicles. My theory is that they ordered the parts, but didn't pay attention to the fact that there are 2 different part numbers being that the old parts are still being used. There is a remark on the TSB saying that the old parts are still being used and that the new parts should only be used on request per the TSB. I can see how it would be an easy mistake. The dealership that did the work was great, awesome customer service, but I'm a little nervous to see how they react when I point out the fact that I think the old part numbers where installed and that might be the reason it still stinks.

The service tech pointed out how much money the cats and parts where. I'm not sure if the dealership or Toyota eats the bill if in fact the wrong parts where used...but if they did put in the old part number parts, this could be why so many people on here are experiencing the smell again after having the TSB done.

I'll be sure to post an update after I talk with the dealership. Should be interesting to see what they say.

Update!

My suspicision are confirmed. It seems that when they ordered the parts for the TSB they managed to order the parts with the old part numbers.

When I went in this afternoon I spoke to a different service tech than when I initially had the repair completed. He looked over the paper work and thought the same as I did that the wrong parts where probably used. He left copies of the paper work for my service tech to look at. He called me about an hour later and and just as I thought the wrong parts (old part numbers) where ordered and used for the TSB. He said that they had the correct parts in stock and wanted me to bring it in tomorrow morning and have it fixed. I have to say that the customer service from these guys has been fantastic. With that said, I'm going to take a marker and mark the exisiting replacement cats just to be sure that they are replaced. Not that I don't trust them, but you never know and I really want to be sure that they do actually replace the wrong cats with the correct parts. I know that it might not completely fix the problem, but at least I will know that they have performed the TSB and that all the currently available remedies have been complied with.

It does make me think that since this is such an easy mistake to make that others members here might have had the same thing happen. With 2 exisiting part numbers in the system and 2 different cats available I can see how easy it would be to order the wrong parts and "comply" with the TSB thinking that all is well. This might explain why so many people are complaining that the smell returns.

I'm hoping that all goes well and that the problem is resolved. I will be sure to update this thread after I have the new part number cats installed.

One other thing to mention is that the cats do not have any part numbers on them. I took a look last night, crawling under my truck with a flash light and mirror and there are no part numbers anywhere on the cat. I did find a T38 and T37 stamped into each cat, but I can't find any reference to those numbers anywhere. It's possible that someone here knows what those numbers mean, but I can't find anything about them on the web.

follow up

Pilotguy,

Can you tell me what part was installed (wrong part).

Mine dealer invoice states:
17410-50450 b6 Pipe assy
17450-50121 b5 pipe assy

EDIT:

I did some researching and yes, the same thing happened to me. Power Toyota of Irvine sucks ass!

Looks to me that you are in the same situation as I am.

Here is the deal. On the bottem of the second page of the TSB it states the following

17410-50450 should be replaced with 17410-50490
17450-50121 should be replaced with 17450-50131.

My invoice say the same thing as yours, it states

17410-50450 pipe assy exhaust N/C
17450-50121 pipe assy exhaust N/C

Those are the old number, and should have been replaced with the above listed parts.

There is a note at the bottem of the TSB that states that the old parts are still being used in production vehicles and are still available as service parts. What that means to me is...becareful when ordering these parts as there are 2 part numbers. It goes on to say that the new part numbers should only be used when the customer complains of the sulfer odor. This is the problem. If they where to do away with the old cats then they wouldn't have this problem, but it seems to me that the new cats must be more expensive otherwise they would have eliminated them already.

I didn't have any problem with the dealership that I went to so far. They admit the mistake and like I said I am scheduled up to have the correct part number cats installed tomorrow. We will see what the final out come is, but so far I have to give them credit. They admit to the mistake and are making an effort to correct it. If all goes as planned then I will have to say that this is one of the best service departments that I have had contact with. This is not a cheap repair as we all know and I'm sure that this mistake has to cost them somewhere.

Just saw that you edited your post as I was typing this. I'd be willing to bet that you are I are not the only ones out there that have had this happen. Now my question is how many others are there?!?!?!
