They seem to be right on target with the pricing according to NADA and KBB. Im talking to the bank today to see about financing.
They offered me $1500 for my 99 Limited so not sure if I should trade or keep her. She does need an exhaust which is about $1000 since I can't do the work myself.
I'm up on the fence a bit here.
Love my 99 but this 06 is much more truck with similar features.

If the frame is ok, still consider getting the rust treated and undercoated.
Where does the Carfax say the vehicle was driven, how much salt is used in that area?

If the rust is minimal, that vehicle could go for a couple thousand more in my area. As someone else said, if there were obvious issues, they would have wholesaled it out of there in a hurry, not worth the hassle.

You would be taxed on the cost minus the trade in, correct?
Ask them $1800 for the trade in, they can take it or counter.

That would narrow the gap some for you.

And it is possible to get decent rate on a loan for a decent 12 yr old vehicle (lien), sold by a dealer. (e.g. Lightstream)

Yes I’d take it and undercoat it again if rust is creeping. They can come up a bit on mine too but I may just keep it since I have a 15 yr old. Safe but if it gets banged up no big deal.

Good to have options!

Don't want to repeat, but some quick points:
* Make sure 4 lo engages with the diff locked (button switch on console, left side)
* Evidence timing belt done around ~90K
* Rust - typically easy spots, to begin to check - lower radiator support, shock tower (drivers side, under hood), trailer hitch.
* Exhaust manifold ticking/leaking, when started from cold.
* Check the Carfax /Toyota Owners site for maintenance records.

This is a great example. The 4R in Limited trim is a step above a decent car and ran the line of luxury/truck which increased it's cost. A RWD SR5 from 2001 had a base MSRP of 26K. A 2018 Base SR5 4R now costs $34.5K, with likely higher dest. cost compared to 2001.

That's a 40% increase in 17 years, or 2.3% per year increase.

Your point? It's still 40% more for the same base car 17 years later, but the limited model only increased 25%. Obviously inflation plays a role. Coincidentally enough, even though USA increased 40% over the last 17 years, Japan, only increased a whole 2.4% over the same time period. Insane.
