06 Limited 4wd 4.0 vs 08 Limited 4wd 4.0

I am about to buy a 4runner for my wife. Looking for a Limited package V6 4wd. I have found a deal on a 2006 and a 2008. Can anyone shed some light on what to look for and what to avoid? Any help would be nice. Thanks in advance

i have a 06 Limited 4.0 V6. I love it.

If price difference is very similar, then go for the 08. Later models would normally have more improvements.

i think both cars are awesome but my opinion i would go for the 08 because it is 2 year off the 06 and 08 model 4runner should have better feature and suspension. good luck!

The biggest changes/improvements for the 4th gen happened in 05, so both models should be identical. I'd go by price and value, but newer is better all else equal.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read a lot of posts about some dreaded "head gasket" issues on models 03-06? A change occurred in 07+ to correct the problem, so I've read. Can anyone chime in and clarify or confirm.

Also, if you are trying to impress a wife or significant, the 08 would have some additional safety features compared to the 06.

I have the 08 Limited v6... I know for the 08+ models they have included the VSC off button so you dont have to lock your differential to disengage VSC and A-trac if you needed to.

All 4Runners are great, though some may have inherent issues. With any generation of used vehicle, I suggest buying the newest model you can afford. I have an 04' purchased in 03' and have spent $0 in maintenance (except brakes, tires and oil, not even a new battery). Now, my dash has started to crack which obviously I am NOT happy about and hoping I don't have any head gasket issues like these years have had, but if I do, can I be mad (sure I would but)? Say $1500 for new dash (if I care to fix which I won't) and $2500 for new head gasket, that is only $400 a year average in maintenance, minus the dash and that is only $250. Sorry, all my ramblings go back to buy the newest you can afford, but in the models you are looking at I do not think there is much difference.
