'06 SE Rims Bubbling?

Has anybody experienced this? I noticed it when I first got the car, but it was just a minor blemish. Now I was washing my car today and it looks like it's getting worse.


I did a google search, and found this person having the same issue:

What the heck can I do about this? My truck is still covered under warranty, but something tells me they won't cover this.

I had this problem on my 2004 Sport rims. I found a really good deal on 2011 Sport rims and just switched them out.

Not sure what causes it, but my first guess would be from snow/salt on the roads.

Yeah, it looks like it seems to be a pretty common issue. At the bottom of the link I posted was a whole bunch of people having the same issue.

Unfortunately, I can't afford new wheels at the moment, it's just frustrating considering my truck is only 6 months old (to me).

I agree 100% that it is caused from road salt. Not sure if that would be covered under warranty. You would probably have to prove that there was no damage to the vehicle for the salt to get in and affect the area more. Which is hard to do. Trying is free, so go for it and see how it goes all they can say is no. However the dealer could know of a good wheel re finisher, get you a deal or help you out some way.

I agree with the last post: if you have a good dealership near you then go to them - I've been amazed at how great some (SOME - the dealership that sold me the truck was awful) dealers are - generally the ones that have a service manager that understands that if they take care of small stuff or TSB stuff that they can get back from corporate Toyota, that it's worth it in terms of return business.

Just as an example: mine did the AUX TSB fix for nothing (and the date on that expired a long time ago).

I have a slight amount of bubbling on my 06 wheels. It never bothered me enough to do anything about them - because guaranteed they are just going to get road rash in the future.

One thing I would check out is the rust around the tailgate license plate garnish - that is truly annoying (and far less simple to switch out!).

Considering I live in NY, it'll be pretty difficult to convince them that it wasn't the road salt that corroded my rims. It's unfortunate, I probably can't afford to refinish the wheels anytime soon :/

Today, a decent chunk came off of the paint just from spraying it with water while I was washing the truck, this is only going to get worse.

Definately from Road Salt/Climate.

I live near the Ocean Beach, my 4Runner's belly is rusty & my wheels are jacked.

Uneek took his Tacoma to the Dealership to possibly have the wheels replaced from Bubbling...The Dealership told him to take a hike.

I have a little of that in my rims too. What are the options to fix this besides replacing them?

My frame has some rust (very little) around the weld-areas on the frame, but barely any at all.

However, my owing electrical hook-up is FUBAR on the little "L" shaped bracket:

The rest of the towing hitch is perfectly fine though.

I just got a Limited a month ago and noticed my wheels are "bubbling." I also did research, some people saying certain/harsh wheel cleaners are to blame. I dont know what to believe. Honestly, I only noticed it after going through the car wash a couple times.
