It would be illegal for your warranty to be void for installing any aftermarkert part. There are laws written to protect the consumer. The only way a dealer can refuse to warranty a part is if its proven that an aftermarket piece caused the failure of the factory part in question.

Jason, I have always wondered why K&N always talks about factory warranty not being void, but they always just say "air filter" they never say it is not void if you do the whole "intake". So I always wondered if this was only true for drop in air filter replacements.

And all over their web site they clearly only say if you put in an air filter. I have emailed them a couple of times to see if the warranty not being void, holds true for the intake as well. You think it would be a clear response but they seem to talk around it. I will take a look at the links you have.

Did you get a chance to look at my other question about the part number being wrong in the K&N intake kit they were shipping here is Deaners quote.

"I wouldnt be surprised if I was one of the first to get the kit from K&N because there was an issue with the install. Between the parts list and the installation instructions they listed two different hoses that connect the intake to the engine. The part you want is the one on the installation instructions (#08690). The guy I spoke with at K&N said he was making a note so maybe they'll change the instructions. Other than that, the kit went on without a hitch. Everything fits snug. "

Do the K&N intake kits you have, have the correct part number?

Just to clarify what SHOULD be in the kit in case I worded it confusingly:

1) 3.5" hose - part # 08698
1) 3.5" hose - part # 08690

Two different diameters. One fits over the air filter, one fits over the engine. My kit only included one hose (# 08698). My instructions were ambiguous about the part numbers, I had to figure it out. This issue should be fixed for new kits though.
 
I too had the same problem as Deaner. I received my kit with only one hose (part# 08698). Luckily he guided me through the missing part process and I am expecting to receive the right hose tomorrow (part #08690) and installed by saturday. For those of you ordering the K&N I would make sure they check and ship you the right hose.

Can either one of you remember who you talked to at K&N about the wrong part number? or who you worked with.

Jason and I are talking to them now, and the engineer at K&N insists that part number will not work, here is his email..

Jason may call him to get more clarification....but we are trying to find out who helped you. So we can get these two people talking to each other.
 
and just to clarify, the issue for you guys was that only one hose was sent and you still needed another hose, which you felt was 08690. So did you end up using both of these hoses?


1) 3.5" hose - part # 08698
1) 3.5" hose - part # 08690


It seems that at least one engineer at K&N does not agree with part number 08690 being part of this kit at all...
 
sorry, i cannot recall the names of the people i talked to at K&N. i spoke with them on 2 occasions, once with a guy and once a girl. i did only receive 1 hose initially which was the 08698. i made them send me both the 08698 & the 08690 in case either wouldn't fit. the 08698's diameter is way to big to fit around the throttle body. the 08690 fit snug around it but is a little tight around the intake tube. as with deaner, i went with the 08690. i would insist they send you one 08690 if you order this system from them. also, you could see from the installlation picture that they used 08690 on instruction #14.

both are 2 inches long. and yes you will need to use 1 of each.
 
Wow, what is going on with those guys?!?

I tried fitting the 08698 over my throttle body at first and it was DEFINITELY too big of a diameter. Just like what etom said, the 08690 fit very snug over the throttle body and intake tube.

Unfortunately I did not get a name either. I guess at the time I felt like the problem was going to be imediately taken care of. I don't know if there is a difference between the throttle bodies on the '05 and '06, which is causing this confusion at K&N, but the 08698 hose is simply too big.

Sorry to get everyone excited about this intake only to run into this problem! Tell the guys at K&N you don't care what they tested the part simply doesnt fit on your engine!

oh yeah, my bad about incorrectly labeling #2 in a previous thread. It is a smaller diameter.

As I said earlier, 08698 fits around my filter, 08690 fits around my throttle body. Do you think the engineer at K&N is getting the locations of these hoses confused?
 
i did notice that they changed the directions the day after i spoke with them. but if you closely at the picture you can see that the part # on the hose is 08690. good luck with everything.
 
Ha good catch etom with the number being in the photo.....but now different in the instructions for step 14. I want to blow that up and send it too the engineer and ask him what's up with this? if you say that part number will absolutely not fit but you use it in the picture. Maybe there is a difference with '06 thhan the '05, shouldn't be. And i can't image they expect you to clamp down a gap of .25"

I'll see what I get when it arrives.
 
Well to keep up-to-date with this thread.....I finally had a free morning to install the K&N intake to see if I could sort out this parts issue we talked about in this thread....The first thing I did was to take an inventory of the parts that K&N shipped me in the kit. I am glad i did this before I took apart my factory air intake. I quickly realized I was short a part number. And of course it revolves around our favorite coupler part number.

Per the install instructions

There should be quantity 2 of Part B: 08698....

B HOSE; 3.5"ID X 2"L, SILICONE 2 08698

And guess what....yep only 1 part sent, so as the guys pointed out in the previous threads you definitely need 2 hose couplers, regardless if they are both 08698 or what you need 2...Come on K&N sort this stuff out.. What is ironic is this means nothing has changed with this kit when they ship it out. It is still short a coupler, the only thing they changed was the online instructions for step #14. The instructions that they ship still show the other part number which they insist will not work..

Just a heads up to anyone looking to order this....I will contact K&N to get this part number sent to me.

HP gained to date from this intake as it sits in the box = 0HP, HP gained from my iritation with K&N and this intake = 100HP

Looks like I've only caused frustration rather than interest in the kit

I promise its worth it once the thing is installed!
