06 V8 K&N intake!!

Does installing the filter increase the risk of reducing performance while the car is off road.
Usually when you are off road there is more dust or water present.
Could this affect the filter?
 
I'm getting to the point it is time to clean and reoil my K&N filter, has anyone done this before with the Round Filters that go on these intakes?

Is the Aerosol Oil (99-5000) easier to apply to the round filters than the squeeze dispenser oil (part 99-5050)?


True to K&N their instruction sheets are pretty dated, and only show cleaning instructions for the flat drop in filters.

I used both types of oil, I didnt have a major preference for either. Just dont over do it. Cleaning it is the same as for flat filters: brush off debris, soak with cleaner, water from clean side to dirty side, dry, oil.
 
I have the same K&N also and love it, I could have found it a little cheaper on ebay, but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it at here. K&N 63-9029, or you can try one of the vendors on the forum here, you can usually find a good deal that way as well. This was very easy to install and I love it.
 
Uh oh K&N

So its been a few years now that Ive had the filter and since I was the first one to install is I thought it would be important to bring up a big problem I am having...and many of you may start to have soon after me.

I noticed a rattling noise under the hood while driving one day, I go to take a look and find that the filter had fallen off. I thought maybe I just had not tightened the clamp enough so I put it back on and tightened it snug.

Same problem began occurring quite often, and really pissing me off. Each time it was more difficult to fit the filter back on. Now, I cannot get the filter back on at all. My guess is the diameter of the filter has shrunk over time. Regardless of whether the parts are cold or hot I simply can not fit the filter body over the receiving end of the intake. The filter has been held on with (gasp!) duct tape for several months now, simply because I have not had time to deal with it.

wd40 doesnt help, hammering it really doesnt help (bent the filter pleats)

Any thoughts or solutions?
 
Ive also left and email with K&N to see what they have to say. Will update when I hear back. Im hoping they may just send me a new filter since there is a "million mile warranty" on the filter.
 
I spoke with customer service at K&N today. I explained the problem I was having and the lady immediately took my address and told me she was sending me a new filter!

Great customer service, now I only hope this new filter won't have the same problem.

If anyone else is having a similar problem see if this will help
 
I did ask. They said some times there is a bad batch. No questions asked and they sent a new filter right away. Sketchy maybe, but no problems with the replacement so far.
 
I see. I just installed the K&N intake on Thursday. I think it looks and sounds really nice. I was actually surprised by the sound of it. It sounds adequately throaty when accelerating and almost like I installed an exhaust upgrade. Maybe thats just me :D

I've had the intake installed for about a week and a half. I'll definitely be keeping it for the foreseeable future. Just fyi for anyone wondering about mpg - I just drove 60 miles (speed ranging from 60-75) and the sensor calculated 21.5 mpg. I understand this sensor may not be accurate, however, when using the stock intake I was lucky to break the 20 mpg mark (usually 19.5). I also noticed 65 mph is kind of the breaking point where mpg begins to decline.
