07 Limited factory alarm randomly goes off.

I have looked all over before I posted this...

I have a 2007 Limited V6 truck. In the spring I got a compustar alarm put in it. Apparently they continue to leave both alarms working on a 4runner.. (strange to me :nono: ). Now at all times of day or night, the factory alarm goes off. Is there as way to take out this factory alarm? I have taken the truck back to have it looked at and they cant find anything wrong. One of these alarms has to go.

Thoughts anyone?

The factory alarm on my 04 Sport V8 seems to work just fine for me. It will let you know if you have a door open when you try to lock it. It goes off if you try to open a locked door or reconnect the battery. I'm not sure what would be causing the alarms to go off in your truck, but if it were me I would get rid of the aftermarket alarm.

Thank you for the reply. My factory alarm did not go off when I changed the battery in January and this was pre compustar. I have checked all door pins and sprayed them with contact cleaner. I have tried the roiling down window, locking and opening the door via reaching in through open window and the factory alarm did not go off. This is the reason why I went after market.

Any recomended alarm systems models that work for you guys? I too think this is a double alarm issue and they are not playing nice together. I have some audio gear in my truck that needs to be protected.

Have you thought about having a competent shop rewire it and integrate the two better? I have an aftermarket alarm and my factory alarm on my 5th gen working side by side no problem. The important thing is to have it installed properly and make sure they are both working in sync. The way I have mine setup is the factory alarm will arm/disarm my aftermarket alarm and vice versa. I am not sure if they make them specifically for your vehicle, but there are lots of alarm integration modules out there nowadays that makes this pain free. For example, Xpresskit db-all, Flashlogic fl-can, etc...any competent shop should be able to get you back on track

Thank you for your repsonse Eddiebx. Yes I have thought about taking it someplace else. This shop did come recommended to me... I just looked at the reciept for the original parts and I dont see any linkage modules as you posted. I dont fully understand alarms, so I am in the dark on this. Do you have a suggested alarm model that would work? PM me if you dont want to post this info online.

Still open to anyone elses experience with alarms on 4 gen limited 4runners. I would be interested in knowing if you have a model / brand and now a module as outlined to be by Eddiebx.

Grrrrrrrrr!! So I got the shop to disconnect the brain of the compustar last Wednesday, and today the factory alarm just went off. Granted, it was a week now since the last time it has gone off, but this is crazy. I don't know what to do. I may have to take it to the stealership and get them to test it.

Again I am open to suggestions and opinions. :yield:

I am a Compustar top gun for the last two years. You have a bad factory hood pin switch. It's either misaligned or bad. Your alarm goes off when the truck cools off correct? Also, is there any old factory remotes in the vehicle?

Here is a test. Go around the hood and lift it up all around it while it it's latched in. Try and make the factory alarm go off. Pull on the doors while it was armed with Oem remote.

Also did this problem exist before alarm system?

Your 5th gen is different from the 4th gen. Newer runners are all controlled by data. He would not have put in a dei or fortin bypass, it would have been a adstb or blade tb. You also said pain free, yet you mentioned dei products lol. Little rivalry between Compustar and directed stuff.personally I hate dei and love what the Compustar can do.

Btw opp, read my Sig and click on the link for my diy. Show the shop my rear window roll down and up and see if they can duplicate it for you. That will test their knowledge of Compustar,lol

- I did not have this issue before the compustar was put in.
- I don't have any factory remotes in the truck.
- I have replaced the batteries in the factory remotes and still have the issue.
- Prior to having the compustar put in, I replaced the battery to a yellow top optima.
- It does not matter if it's cold or warm or cooling off. I have had it go off 12 hours after it's parked.
- I can't get the factory alarm to go off by pulling the door handles.
- if I have the window open and I factory arm it and reach in and open the door it won't go off either.
- I had the hood pin looked at. I will try and wiggle it, do you do that when the lac his pulled so it could be opened? Cause the hood is securely lached.

I met a Toyota tech and he thinks it could be the body ecu. At $600.00 before tax it's an expensive gamble.

Hi guys, still having the same issue. I shop to pull out the brain of the alarm back in November via unplugging it to see if it was the compustar. Well it continues to randomly go off. I have now pulled the horn fuse to keep people in my hood from calling the cops on me.
I have noticed when I lock the truck with the fob, I get one chirp and doors lock quickly followed by another chirp and the dome light stays on. Sometimes it does not do this and the dome light turns off.

Today I was checking after I fob locked the doors to make sure all the locks were locked, to be surprised on the passenger side door if I pulled the handle the dome light comes on and the running board lights come on. What makes it stranger is that no other handle does this. I pulled them all to try this.

Question for every, if you lock your truck with the fob and you pull on the handle does your dome light come on ?

I have been told that this could be the body ecu. Anyone know anything about this?

Ah that's good to know about the 4th gens, I haven't looked into alarms since the late 90s when I put an alarm in my first car. As I'm sure you can imagine technology overload for me now just getting back into it like 10-15 years later, lol.

No DEI vs compustar rivalry here sir, I couldn't care less as long as it works reliably :cheers:

The second chirp after it locks usually means there's a trigger open I think? Gshadow can confirm for you when he comes back though, I've not the first clue with compustars

I don't have a 4th gen either, but I don't think the dome light should be coming on when you pull on the door handles, maybe the door pin is loose?

Very good question as to why they both did not go off if it was a door pin. That is part of the question I had in this forum. As of today I can pull on the handle and the dom light does not go on.

So I still am struggling with this issue a year later. I have been just parking the truck in the garage and not locking it.

Anyone have any new solutions or anyone having this issue or fixed it?

I have even disconected the factory hood pin. I have replaced both front door pins...

This is probably the most evil 4Runner out there!

I've had the panic button on my key fob get stuck and set my alarm off while camping. Scared the absolute crap out of me and woke everyone up at 7am. It happened a few times that weekend at random times and I was really confused. I put my keys on a table and it would still go off at random times. Pulled the fob apart, removed the battery and the rubber buttons and put it all back together. No more issues and thankfully it wasn't an electrical issue or a short.

Another item that I replaced in trying to solve this issue was the factory fuse panel along with all of the relays ( it comes as one unit.). It cost me 1000 if I remember correctly. So it did not solve it either..... If any one needs one of these parts I have a 7 year old one that they can get from me for a good price.

I am thinking the next move would be to replace the factory alarm module. 1000 here and there is sadly cheaper than buying a new truck.:redbrick:
