08 Tacoma PreRunner 61k miles $17000???

I am looking for some opinions on this 2008 Double cab prerunner Tacoma for my Mother-in-law. $17k Seems like a reasonable price for the year and miles. I have not pulled a carfax yet. Anyone out there with a month unlimited who would want to pull it and see if anything stands out?? She is trading in a 2008 Mazda 6 V6 sport. She realizes how a truck could be more useful. The miles don't really concern me, I figure there is alot of highway miles since it is an 08. The bonus is it already has a hard matching/locking hard tonue cover(Spelling??) which I know are not cheap. It appears to be in good shape. I have not seen it in person yet. I know mechanic inspection ect... is the best option. Just wondering if there are any know issues with Tacomas??

Nice ride. A friend of mine has one of those. I drove it around and it's not much different than a 4Runner. Just like what the emblem says "PreRunner".

2008 was a pretty good year. There was a problem with a possible oil leak from the timing cover (T-SB-0326-08), but it was fixed in 2008 and the VIN you're looking at was made after that fix.

It's also new enough to have the re-designed tailgate. The original 2nd Gen (2005+) tailgate was easy to bend, but again, it was fixed in early 2008.

Some safety features didn't become standard until 2009. If you're looking for side airbags, VSC, or TRAC, those were options. You'll need to find out if that specific truck had them.

The stock radio doesn't have MP3 playback. While 4Runner got that across all radios in 2006, Tacoma didn't get it until 2009. A lot of little things are like that - Tacoma seems to be a couple of years behind other Toyota models in some respects.

2005+ Tacoma is part of the big recall about the sudden acceleration/floor mat fiasco.

I would be concerned about the miles. I just got rid of my 08 and it only had 16,400. Aside from that I say go for it. it's got the Auto so no tranny problems and the v6 will be plenty for her as far as hauling. Going to have to get an aftermarket warranty. Powertrain went out at 60k

Why? If maintained and treated well in its past life, there is absolutley nothing to worry about.

With that many miles on an 08 it should be mostly highway miles, so as long as they did regular oil changes I would think it would be fine, and the price seems good from others I have seen in my area.

Thanks for your info. I had not heard about either of those issues (tailgate,oil leak) That is the kind of stuff I was looking for. Don't get me going on the floor mat issue. There is a little common sense that comes into play with that. Turning the key to OFF and putting both feet on the brake come to mind????

That is HIGH miles for an 08 but that is just a good start as far as I am concerned. I bought no extended warranty on my 04 and I have never replaced anything but brakes and a Pwr door lock motor (that I more than likely caused) It has also received every recommended maintainence per the manual and it has 102k and runs like a champ.

Like a couple of people have said, 61K is about 4 yrs worth of miles in 2 yrs.
Not necessarily a big problem if maintained, but should factor into lowering the price, and you should be ready to replace things that wear out a bit sooner.
