'08 uses coolant??

Hello,
I have a '2008 4runner SR5,v-6,auto with
68k mi.The coolant level in the reservoir goes completely down & needs to be filled about every 2-3k miles.
There is no evidance of leakage anywhere & I never smell the sweet smell of antifreeze either
There is no eviidence of coolant in the oil & the spark plugs look clean.
Any thoughts on where the coolant is going?
How concerned should I be??

Um, yeah... I'd be concerned.

Just spit-balling here, but you probably want to get it pressure tested. Could be something simple like your radiator cap or it could be the something like the water pump seal or the dreaded head gasket failure. The coolant in your oil won't always manifest itself in this case.

Any chance you got a (external) leak that you haven't spotted yet ?

Anything new and different about your exhaust ?

If you have been loosing this much coolant for any length of time I would expect you'd see it pretty readily in the oil if its going to the crank case.

hey its gotta go somewhere and if its not on the ground its in the block...I would not mess around here...take it in and be sure its not headed towards destruction.:wtf:

If its burning it, you could tell by looking at the spark plugs, the culprit cylinders plug would almost positively be cleaner than the rest due to the steam created when the coolant enters the hot combustion chamber. Its usually accompanied by a random misfire code of unless its a minuscule amount. I'd start with having the cap checked or replaced as its cheapest, then check the plugs or do a compression test/leak down test to see if there's a bad spot in the gasket if the plugs look fine.

Edit-just saw you already checked plugs, my bad. I need to slow down my reading sometimes.
Check the cap, could be evaporating. Also check around the block where the heads meet and see if there's any sign of pink residue, unless you've done that...
