1.5" Lift Problems (fixed) with PICS and Wheel Spacer Info

Forgive me if this has been covered before but I couldn't find a post on it. I have a 2011 SR5 that I lifted with adjustable Bilsteins in the front set at 1.5" with factory coils. In the back 2" 5100 non adjustable Bilsteins and Toy Tech 2" Super Flex coilsin.

Although I was trying to keep the factory rake in the picture I over did it so I want to bring the back down by a 1/2" which would leave me with a 1.5" lift all around still keeping a gentle factory rake. Here's my problem. I can do this using a Toy Tech 1.5" spacer and a factory coil for the rear but I don't want to use factory coils. I want to keep the bobble out of my truck and also have the benefit of carrying that extra tongue weight when I haul a trailer without sagging. The Super Flex coils by Toy Tech does that for me but I can't find a stock height coild anywhere. I remember once seeing an Old Man Emu that was stock height for the 5th gen 4Runner and could carry extra load but I can't seem to find it anywhere anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions for me on who makes a stock height coil that will take the extra load?

I would park on level ground and take measurements from the ground to fender all around and see where you are at. I would guess the toytec coils gave you more than 2" of lift in the rear.

Stock, the rake is approx 2" with the front being about 35" and the rear about 37".

Where are you at now?

I actually measured from the center of my wheel given that tires can change the accuracy of measurements. I have the before and after specs somewhere but I'd have to fish them out. Do you know of an aftermarket coil that is stock height and can take the extra load?

Airbags just aren't what I'm going for budget wise and I wouldn't want to keep them aired up all the time to do what springs would do for me by themselves. Good concept though.
 
1.5" Sway Away Coils Installed

Alright guys. It's done. I swapped out my rear 2" Toy Tec Superflex Coils for 1.5" Sway Away Coils.

This means I'm now running the 1.5 coils in the back with 5100 Bilsteins and stock coils with 5100 adjustable Bilsteins in the front set at 1.5".

What this did for me was fix the rake issue I had where the the 2" in the back added too much lift. I didn't want to level things out. Just make the truck taller and keep it tilted forward slightly like you'd get out of the factory. The truck looks good now with a nice factory rake look but sitting 1.5" higher than stock SR5 5th Gens. I plan on buying new wheels with a wide offset to give it a nice stance down the road. I want to keep what I believe (without checking) the 265 tires size using Good Year DuraTracs. All in all when I'm done it will give me a nice aggressive look while still being a good daily driver.

I'm really happy with the Sway Aways. The actually give me a smoother ride with more articulation than the Superflex Coils did and can handle the extra tongue weight of my trailer with the truck being fully loaded too.
 
My 5100s didn't have a 1.5" setting. They came with 0, 0.85", 1.75", or 2.5" notches. I thought I had gone with a 1.5" height myself until I was corrected by someone else on this forum, and found I had used the 1.75 setting. At that setting I had an ever so slight reverse rake with my normal load, before I put the winch/bumper on the front. I'm adding medium weight 2" OME springs this week and dropping the shocks back to either 0 or .85" to allow for the added weight of the bumper. Then I'll probably be adding Daystar 1.5" spacers in the back until I decide to go with OME springs there. Unless of course you'd like to sell me your unused Super Coils? Of course unlike you I am going for a leveled look.

Are you sure you have your fronts set at 1.5"?

I'm glad you've mentioned this. I've actually always wondered in the back of my head wether the adjustable shocks were set at 1.5 or 1.75. I had a local shop do it and they weren't the best at communicating with me. Long story short that although I'm a perfectionist, once baby came I've had little time to look into such things. Everything is perfect now and it doesn't really matter since I didn't want a 2" lift anyways. I'm really happy with the 1.5" lift. However when ai get the chance and change out my front coils for better quality then I'll thoroughly inspect it all. I'm definitely interested in selling you those coils. If you want to pm me then I'll send you my number.

The ride was smooth with a lot of body roll especially when braking (the bobble we've all heard about) before I changed anything. I mean super smooth over anything including speed bumps!

After changing to all Bilsteins with stock coils in front and Toy Tec Super Flex coils in back with 265 Dura Tracs load E the ride got significantly bumpier not not bad at all. Best way to describe it is that my wife noticed but it doesn't bother her. The baby doesn't mind either. Even an abrupt bump like a speed bump is not bad at moderate speed. The bobble all went away and when I load the truck up with 4 people not even talking about cargo and a trailer yet, the truck rides super smooth.

Now once I changed over to the SwaySways in back everything got a a couple hairs smoother and I've noticed better wheel articulation which will be better for off-road. Still no nose dive or bobble and I'm loving it. I'm thinking about putting these coils up front too.

Hey guys, sorry it's taken me so long to get pics up. I've been super busy with life. Since this post I went from rear SuperFlex 2" Toy Tech springs in the back and front adjustable Bilstein 5100 shocks set at .88 inches (something like that). That gave me too much of a rake so I reduced the back to 1.5" Sway Away Coils and front adjustable coilovers by Boss. Here is a before and after picture however I don't have a pic of before I changed any of the suspension. Also I added 1.25" SpiderTrax Spacers and am posting pics of that. Hope this helps some of you out. Lastly, I know it's hard to see but there really is a great improvement in the rake. I think I parked in a slight shallow spot in the rear. It looks really good in person though and am very happy with it. The ride quality has also improved and yes there is now rubbing on the fenders from the spacers that I need to take care of.

And here are your Toytecs in the back of mine with OME 885's at 2" in front. Thanks for the springs. But I definitely see what you were worried about. I'll just have to keep mine loaded.

 
Just curious. Is there a reason you don't want to set the Billies on the .85 perch?
