nah dude, most TX people know how to drive. We are pretty much one of the only states, if not the only state that even as your traveling, when your outside the city, have 'courtasy passing'.

well the way i read it is
"a study released this week shows that states where fatalities caused by car accidents are a major issue are doing the least to prevent them."

that states doing the least to prevent them.

is what i gather from this, and TBH, who really cares, alot of those states are low in population and don't really warrant the stupidity that happens on the government side of states like Cali,NY,WA and such, alot of those states are very proactive and very re****ed ...i'd prefer not so much meddling IMO...

I would stand up to say that those states have more fatalities do to less public services provided by the government. I've driven in and around south carolina and the drivers there are polite and friendly and curtious, however the road contitions as well as safety impletation sucks. The last big storm of freezing rain we had i was driving from North Carolina To SC and you could imediatly tell when the state line hit, it went from salted plowed roads to, no salt, iced over, inch thick blanketed on ice roads lol.

I also believe that the wealth in some of those states that ranked on the list have lower levels then the well known states for bad drivers, which would lead me to believe the people in states like new York, MA, CA, and Texas where people tend to drive newer and safer cars, and many areas are more urban and crashes would tend to be at lower speeds, would cause less fatal accidents, but that is just a thought.

Actually, Texas has a LOT of open land... In other words, you can fit.the entire U.S. population here and still have room lol. But, we have a few big cities, but a lot is hill country & wide open spaces...how I love it.

just to clarify i think this is about states that don't spend that much money on road safety ..NY and CA both spend lots on road safety compared to others on the list.....

you forgot drinking and driving while trying to pull the shotgun from your gun rack because you saw a buck in a field 150 yards away while driving 90 mph....number one cause of accidents in the south, well that and road rage because of the confederate flag stickers on 4runners.

Having lived in Arkansas for most of my years, I can say that seat belt usage is terrible there. If the southern states could figure out how to increase seat belt usage and decrease DWI, they've got a chance to get out of this ranking.

New York and New Jersey should have made the list. Either too aggressive or drive until you tap something in your path. Florida is also bad- drive 20 under speed limit in the left lane.

Many drivers here display legendary tailgating skills. Makes me wonder if they teach it in drivers ed.

A good number of folks also don't seem to know how to merge...they just meander onto the freeway at 35 -40 mph.

And for crying out loud...stop texting while driving!
