10K Service Experience

Well, there is not much to talk about. Very uneventful. Went to the same dealer I have used in the past "in a pinch.". I never needed an appointment, just drive right up.

Showed up this morning 10 minutes before they opened, got checked in, handed the service manager my service coupon and he said, "do you have an appointment? We only accept those by appointment.".

Are you #%^*%ing kidding me?!?!?! I never needed an appointment before. Drive right, pay the man, done. How does the service interval book change this?

Not too happy this AM.

When I took mine in for the 5K service. They told me that since they only get 20 bucks for the service all they would do is rotate the tires reset the dash light nothing more. Would imagine the 10K service is the same.

If I was willing to pay the advertised special of $79.00 for the 5K service they would perform the tasks shown in the manual.

Called Toyota CS and was told in a nutshell pound sand.

3 Toyota's in last 4 years over 100K in cars and this is the result.

Lesson learned.

I was unaware that all Toyota Dealers didn't give free service for 24 months or 24 Ks. Mine came from Midland, Texas and that was one of the selling things I considered. The Service Manage said that included what the Manual indicated for each 5000. It has Synthetic Oil, so I ask if he was going to put the same Oil in at the proper time. He replied yes! Going next week for the 5K check. No more than I drive it will take a long time for the next 5K.

2010 Bought Aug 10 - Limited Seashore w/a lot of nonsense I will never use. Price was OK with my trade.

Are you implying they would have serviced your truck without an appointment if you had paid but not if you wanted to use the coupon?
I paid for my 5k and immediately called Toyota Customer Experience to pitch a fit. Got the service mgr to call me back and credit my account. Not a refund but good enough for me to not want to pursue it.

That is exactly what I am implying.

Update on Service Experience.

I validated via the website that an appointment is not required. I confirmed with salesperson who stated I did not need an appointment. I called the service department who said, “One is recommended, but not required.” I stopped by on my way home and “popped in” and… much to my amazement… appointments are not needed!

I asked to make the programming adjustments (locks, windows, etc.). They were happy to do so. However, dealer would not turn off seat belt chimes referencing a “State Law” that he could not cite. When pushed he said, “Dealer Policy is not to change safety settings” (well then… I will go to another dealer).

I was then told that the service would take “less than an hour”… checked in at 1 hr 15 minutes… 1 hr 30 minutes… 1 hr. 45 minutes… finally left after 2 hours. I told them that service like this (including being turned away the weekend before) will drive customers away. Now the service rep started to “2-step”…

…. “we only service via appointments on Saturday because it is busy”… oh… so you waste customers time by misleading them on your website… misinforming your sales staff and having an ill-informed service staff who tell you appointments are not necessary… then you turn your customers away when they show up?

cynical / sarcastic :thanks:

…. “it sometimes takes longer because we re-torque the propeller shaft”…. oh… are you telling me that sometimes you don’t re-torque the drive shaft despite it being a part of the paid service? Or, are you telling me that once you get it up on the lift it takes you an additional 60+ minutes to re-torque the drive shaft?

:redbrick:

I value my weekend time at twice my weekday hourly rate. This service took 2.5 hours including travel time. I think I will use my next coupon at a different dealer for a different experience, not necessarily better. Then I will go back to doing my own servicing.

:ak472:

Rant over. :)

Same thing I was told yesterday. I wanted an oil , lube and filter !!!! all they did was rotate tires and sent me on my way. I was like WTF ??? I wanted stuff lubed and the prop shaft lubed since we just came off winter road salt season. What BS !! That was at my normal dealer I am going to call the dealer I bought it from this week and ask the guy what the deal is.

Went in for 10K service yesterday (a Saturday) and was out again in less than an hour. No hassles, no appointment, fully serviced according to receipt. At 5K they changed the oil and lubed, again with no hassles. Service writer joked with me about being so "late" getting the truck in for 10K service at 10199 miles. Dealer was Royal-Moore in Hillsboro, OR.
