11' SR5 Tires

I'm looking into changing the stock rubber but need help choosing. I would like an all-season tire that is aggressive for the harsh winters we get here but not ware out fast in the summer. I would also like to keep the road noise down to a minimum as we will be using the 4R for road trips.

Any recommendations?

There were few threads about tires here, but before people start saying about using search I gonna say that I couldn't decide between Firestone Destination and Duratracs, but finally went for Duratracs. Thought if they too noisy for me I would use them as winter tires, but now after 10,000 km on them I think I stay with Duratracs in the summer too. Duratracs are noisier than stock tires, but not enough to bother me (or what more important my wife) on long trips.
 
In the same boat, I have been keeping up with some of the tire threads. Thinking the firestones at this time, will probably pull the trigger within the next week. has any one had any wear issues with the c rated destination at.
 
Yep, same here. Got it narrowed down to those 2 brands. I'm also thinking I'll go Destination A/T's eventually. I don't need the aggressive look, and heard the Destinations wear just a little better than the Duratracs.
 
agreed - my wife didn't want the TE because the hood scoop looked too aggressive haha We will be using the 4R as a family/camping/hunting vehicle so I need to keep it in the middle for looks. I just want a good set of tires so I don't have to worry so much about road conditions and not 2 sets of tires.

Sometimes I wish the 4R had full time 4WD but the limited was out of my reach and I didn't want that fancy suspension anyway... will most likely be a money pit later on.
 
I love my Destination AT's. They're surprisingly quiet and do great in wet and dry conditions. Check out the reviews on tirerack.com
 
If you want a cheap option, find someone selling their Jeep Rubicon tires on ebay. I have them and the look and ride great.

That's pretty much why I decided to try Duratracs. They are good in snow, on the trail and on the road, supposed to be stronger then P tires - in other words best all seasons I could find. And so far I'm quite happy with those tires. If time proves that they last long enough I'm getting them again for sure.

In my opinion you can drive on any tires in winter if you feel your vehicle and drive according the conditions. Real difference is in climbing slipery hills and going offroad. I drove to Vermont and back on stock tires in December and I survived. There was lot of snow there and slippery somethimes but VSC beeped just once. But I used to drive on all seasons, Duratracs are the first severe winter rated tires on my vehicle : )
 
Yep I hear yah... if you can't see 50feet in front of the truck, don't drive 60mph LOL

I called a local tire shop Kaltire and he told me that the Dueler's are almost the same as the destination LE and for me the A/T are just overkill for what I will be doing.

and he was only offering me $40/per tire as a trade in... so for the little upgrade I would be getting, there is no point.
 
thats interesting, if you go to tirerack.com and look at the survey results, Destinations are on the top and Duelers at the bottom. Not sure about A/T in general , but I felt some improvement when I installed Duratracs. Truck is more stable on gravel and wet roads, Duratracs are definetely better on snow and slush. Next week I hope to go to ski tirp in Quebec and I definetely feel better with snow rated tires driving there. I haven't had chance to test Duratracs in mud, but stock tires scared me on couple of occasions when I had to drive through about 8 inches of mud. So I got the impression that AT tires should bring noticeable improvement but I guess it' better to listen to folks who have Destinations.

Stock tires with 4x4 did fine on icy roads, granted I was going max 20 mph, mostly 10 mph tho. It's doable, I was more worried about other people hitting me than anything else. Fresh snow up to a 12 in I was able to get through, a little loss of control, but I got through in one piece.

Only you know your driving capabilities and future needs. A tire that has received both off-road AND on-road compliments is the Hankook Dynapro ATM. Tire Rack does not carry it, but DTD does. I have about 10K miles on mine so far, both highway and occasional snow. Performance has been great. Read some reviews here:

If you compare how both tires are rated from the manufacture website the Destination LE and Dueler are almost rated the same. And I was told that Bridgestone and Firestone are the same company.

Today I went out and drove without traction control. Tires preformed good, never felt the truck go out of my control but I'm just doing donuts in a parking lot and whatnot... huge difference when you are driving 60mph and you feel your rear end giving out...

I guess I'm still on the fence. Just sucks that these tires are worth nothing used. I got the Destination LE priced at $1016 installed.
 
You won't miss the duelers. I ditched mine after 20K and I wish I had done it sooner.

I decided to go with the duratracs and am very pleased. Based on my searching, the duratracs had an aggressive look without excessive weight (C load).

This was a first since I have run BFG A/T on every truck I have owned.

As Brock mentioned, the Geolanders are well priced and have great reviews. Also, the tread is not super aggressive which sounds like what you are after.

Brock do you have any issues with the 285 70 Geolanders rubbing? What size lift if any do you have? I had Geolanders on my 06 Sequoia and want to put a set on my 2011 Runner. I wanted to step up a size and was curious if I could go that big without issues. Mine is a stock SR5 no lift. Thanks
 
Hankook ATM R10's are great tires for on/off road and are super in the snow. On a side note, anyone have any luck selling their factory wheels (SR5) and tires?
 
You guys are starting to convince me! haha Winter is almost over and since the OE tires are worth nothing used, I'm going to ride out my tired until next winter and see how I feel then. Having just bough the SR5 makes it hard to spend more money.
