140k Service Recommendations?

My '03 4Runner has 140k miles on it. I've had it serviced at the dealer around 60k but nothing since other than normal oil changes, and brake pads.

The dealer recommends all sorts of expensive things like replacing my blinker fluid and removing baby unicorns from the muffler. :-) What are some of the more important service/maintenance items that you all would recommend I have performed at this point? Thanks!

V6?

I'd do the following in addition to a repeat of the 60k items (which should've been done at 120k):

- Anti-freeze change
- Transmission, t-case and axle fluids
- Radiator/heater hose inspection. Replace as necessary.
- Accessory belt
- Brake system flush
- Power steering flush

Will you DIY most of it?

This site is a good guide that helps separate the dealers 'high profit' list vs what Toyota says. Toyota Parts and Service It goes from zero through 120k. Beginning at 120 repeat so a 150k service should look like the 30k.

Finally, if the dealer is killing you on price a good independent shop can handle this routine maint.

Good luck!

Thanks Chris! It is a V8 Sport Edition. I was planning on having it done at the dealer or independent shop.

If you haven't had it done then the priority has got to be the timing belt + water pump. This is usually a package deal. I was quoted $600 w/labor and parts where I bought mine from and that seems like a fair price.

:iagree: 100%

That will knock out a hose inspection, anti-freeze change and it provides a great opportunity to put on an accessory belt.

I would find an independent and take him this kit: Timing Belt Kit Toyota 4 Runner 2003 2004 V8 2UZFE 4.7L: eBay Motors (item 170429983508 end time Aug-06-10 14:53:17 PDT)

It's wonderfully complete and covers all those little parts that are cheap but very labor intensive and therefore it's "smart" to put in new.
