In our area, Touchless car washes use brushes...
There used to be, but no longer, car washes described as Brushless, they had no brushes just strong detergents, high pressure water and Blowers....nothing touched the paint.

A brushless car wash is one that uses cloth to clean your car instead of the old style brushes. The idea is that a soft cloth will do less to scratch the paint than a spinning brush.

A touchless car wash is just that---touchless. Only water and soap touch the vehicle.

I'm surprised that there's so much confusion about this.

Hey everybody,

I ran my T4R through the drive through carwash in Tyler Texas and my roof rack and light bar got caught in the overhead spinning brush and it ripped my Baja Utility rack and my Light bar upward tearing my wires off my light bar and bending the front of my roof rack to 90 degrees. Once the Rack bent all the way upward it pushed my sunroof in and bent it all the tracking up and soap and water began pouring into my vehicle. After about 45 seconds of honking they managed to stop the car wash and two guys had to hang on the rack to bend it down enough to get me out of the wash..

I filed an incident report at the car wash on Saturday and on Monday I got a call from the GM and they said they are not liable and will not help in anyway to get my vehicle fixed "Because we have 2 signs that clearly state that NO aftermarket parts or luggage racks are covered if damaged".


But now I am left to file it on my own insurance and the CAR WASH didnt even apologize for the damages.. Heck they didnt even refund the 15$..

I wouldn't take any vehicle I care about through an automated car wash.... those things destroy paint jobs... but seriously I have to agree with the other posts here.... sorry about the damage...that really sucks

Seems like brushless work. Very easy on the car and fast. Then I wipe the car myself. Its hard to wash it at home in the summer since it dry in a few seconds with the heat at 120. :hunter:

Not trying to kick you while you're down, but definitely wouldn't call the car wash out on this being their fault. Especially since they have signs posted up. I would go touchless next time you decide to take it through a carwash.

Either way, it sucks to hear about your truck. Hopefully you can get it all worked out.

I mean, yeah, that isn't their fault. You're lucky you didn't do any damage to their equipment, or you'd be liable for that as well I'm sure. Why you would think it'd be a good idea to go through with a rack and light bar to hook on in the first place is beyond me. I get nervous about the stock cross bars.

To piggy back off this. If the next car after him goes in and got damage by lose wires and parts spinning like morning stars, he can get sued too.

This kind of stuffs is why I have problems finding good doctors. People like this OP complain on yelp, sue etc when they didn't follow Dr. instructions. Make Dr jaded and do the least or go to ER.

If anyone needs carwash safe, my LFD Offroad bars have been through numerous spinning brush carwashes with no issues

I feel your pain. That is rough, but definitely not the car washes fault.

I only do touchless car washes

2018 and the thread still lives...as part of the long term test, can the OP actually install the rack correctly and then go through again. Inquiring minds...

Didn't read every post but wanted to jump in and tell you that you showed a lot of character by not being defensive and taking the feedback that was being posted.

Beyond that I always use the manual car wash with the sprayer... just always have, grew up in a small town in Kansas and my wife thinks I'm crazy but I know I'll never have any issues with brush damage, etc.

Man - I just bought a brand new 2018 Toyota TRD Pro 4Runner! No way I would run such a rare and expensive vehicle through an automated car wash! That would be like washing an original Monet with Simple Green! Crazy.

I just got my new truck a few days ago, but I've already washed it three times. No way am I going to let it get dirty. It's way too valuable. I only use Aēsop Resurrection Aromatique - it's $45 a bottle (500ml), but it smells of Mandarin Oranges, Cedar Wood, and Lavender. And I only rinse with bald eagle tears. I tried bottled Fiji water, but it was so harsh on my skin, I couldn't even imagine the damage it would do to a cars paint. Plus, you can buy that ish at 7-11, way too plebeian for me.

Anyone have a Payday loan site they can recommend?

I wouldn't call a 5th gen TRD 4runner "rare and expensive". They are all over the place and are pretty average when it comes to SUV prices.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love them and wouldn't pick any other SUV over one, just IMHO.
