15 years old and Plan B

I fully support 15 year olds getting plan B. There's no denying that kids are having sex at an earlier age and not taking the greatest care. It's inevitable and I'd rather have my daughter have the opportunity to take it than get pregnant by some one night stand or douche boyfriend. Plan B isn't cheap and won't be used frequently as a form of birth control, but accidents do happen. For a 15 or 16 year old it's not always convenient for them to have sex. They are under their parents roof and many parents aren't cool with letting their kids have sex under their roof. So the kids will end up sneaking around and having sex in places that a condom is not easily accessible. Also the parents may freak out and overreact if the girl asks for permission to get plan B so the girl hides it till she actually is pregnant.

It's not like Plan B kills unborn children or anything. It's merely a last form of birth control. Me and my fiance have used it after a night that wasn't protected. It happens to most and kids are going to make stupid mistakes with sex. Might as well let them have all the resources they can instead of being pregnant at 15.

I plan on talking with my daughter and being open about all that stuff. Sex happens and being educated and having the right resources will prevent teen pregnancy. An open line of communication will go a lot further than locking her in her room or banning her from seeing guys.

To the people who can't believe 15 year olds have sex, really? What generation do you think we live in. Puberty is happening earlier and earlier in kids than in the past and they are curious. I was 18 for my first time, but I had plenty of friends who were 14 or 15. It's going to happen and becoming more of the social norm to have sex younger. You can't say all you guys who were teenagers during the 70's were angels?
What do you mean there is no denying it. . . of course there is. Not all kids are doing it and just saying the majority are and accepting it isn't setting an example. if she is engaging in activities that are "unhealthy" with an as you stated dbag boyfriend. . what again is the parents responsibility to somewhat have a say in who their child dates. If he is a dbag why wait until he gets her pregnant to come down on him? Again the logic just doesn't make sense. Its a simple well this fixes the "problem" when the reality is the problem is limited parental interaction, and living by example. . .

Id rather the 15 year olds would take the pill instead of bringing something into this world they cant take care of. You cant expect these kids to be the best and make the best decisions. Things like this need to be implimented so we are not bringing life into the world that cant be taken care or burden someone else

I agree with you 99%.

I removed " If a fetus is considered life then i guess im a murderer for sneezing into a tissue and throwing it out" from your quote because it's more complicating than "sneezing". BTW, I am Pro-Choice.

If it is truly such a burden then why are you engaging in the activity in the first place. If the activity is truly bad and you don't want your child to do it then you need to teach them and educate them on not to do it. Stealing is bad and you teach your kids that. There are consequences for stealing, but you just dont "for the sake" of it and "just to be safe then sorry" be an accomplice in the crime. The problem with society today is that they have lost the concept of what sex is. It is purely for selfish physical enjoyment. And you wonder why there are so many broken homes, abused women and children, when this initial behavior that is "the social norm" is now acceptable because sex is just that. . .sex. If has nothing to do with selflessness but it is now all about selfishness. To say you are pro-choice is also one of the most big mis-labeled words to describe a stance. The opposite of pro-life would be pro-death. But of course we can't say that, because that leaves a bad taste in your mouth to say someone is pro-death. Pro-choice. . .choice of what. .to kill a person. You made your choice the minute you had sex. You made your choice when you engaged in the activity with apparently someone you didn't know that well and they left you. Again broken homes, child support, divorce, psychologically damaged women and children. You can say the sexual revolution has gone somewhere, and while that statement is true the fact is, it has gone backwards. What is so revolutionary about engaging in sexual activity with multiple people at such young ages. You are saying it is okay for 15 yr olds who in some states cant drive yet, who cant serve in the military, who cant vote, and cant drink, and who scientifically don't have a fully developed brain are OK in making their own decision in such a serious matter. Yes I understand they can learn from their mistakes, but as stated if this truly is a mistake then maybe it shouldn't be done in the first place. Again what a difference it would make if people still acted out of kindness and selflessness. I dont think we would have as many sexual assaults, rape, offenders, etc. It all comes down to what are your priorities, and the reality is that at age 15 priorities should not be about sex, but maybe about doing well in school to go to college and get a well paying job. Last time i checked working while going to school leaves little time to "make poor decisions". And I will always refer back to proper parent interaction. Keeping tabs on your children, actually having a reasonable curfew, and taking the consequences for actions or lack their of. Wonder why there are so many problem-youths in the country is do to the lack of all of these.

I agree with whomever said what about plan A. 15 year olds having sex?! I feel like this is an episode of Jerry Springer we now live in. And to the people who say they knew 15 year olds who were sexually active, this does not justify the means and make it ok an the norm.

What do you mean there is no denying it. . . of course there is. Not all kids are doing it and just saying the majority are and accepting it isn't setting an example.

You CAN deny it all you want but the fact is that despite what you believe teenagers (even 15 year olds) are having sex. Even if your children are not, their peers within social circles are doing it.

Plan B is something that women (of whatever age) take after already having sex. It is meant to be used when a condom breaks, is not used properly or not used at all. If a girl has sex and the condom breaks and she is 15 then without access she has to go to her parents and ask permission to use Plan B ect. This is not something teenagers are often willing to do. Several months later the pregnancy, now months into it (vs 24 hours) is apparent and the teen (and family) has a different set of much harsher choices.

So the key question is do you really believe your kid would come to you and tell that they broke the rules, had unprotected sex and now they need plan B? Or would they (more likely) keep it to themselves and hope for the best?

Ok...yet, we spend a ton of effort and media coverage to ban the word "Easter" or "Christmas" from schools. And we go out of our ways to promote this "Morning after pill" to all ages because we are perfectly OK & accepting with sex at any age...as a safety net. Is our society got our priorities screwed up?

good job not answering the question

And we go out of our ways to promote this "Morning after pill" to all ages
The government isn't promoting Plan B. They are simply saying that Private business owners or corporations can sell the product to minors. The government has simply deemed that this exchange of good on the market is legal and there is no valid medal reason to prevent it. That is the governments decision. The US government is NOT selling the pills, this is free a enterprise transaction.

BTW the same arguments were used against condom sales to both adults and minors years ago.

Know the root of all of it is determining what sex is for. And you cant debate on any issue regarding it until you come to a common ground Again saying individuals in the social circle may be engaging in it so just to accept it and pretty much indirectly glorify it by not saying it could have "negative" consequences isnt helping. Yet again if some in the same social circle are using cocaine the least you could do is help your kid through. Because you would just be ignorant to think kids the same age arent doing drugs. Again you arent answering the question. Kids shouldnt be having sex at 15, and if we maybe taught that and didnt glorfiy it and make acceptable today we wouldnt have as many problems. Again the argument means nothing until common ground is met on what sex is for. And again you never answered any or my previous questions on the maturity of a 15 yr old to make a decision and also about parental involvement. And in regards to "safe sex" you are already giving it a negative connotation. If sex is truly "unsafe" then why do so much get involved with it. By safe sex you mean convenient sex, because if the "aftermath" doesnt go as planned or convenient, then you can always just push the rewind button and act like it never happened. Again what message are you sending about the true respect of one another sexually, physically, and psychologically. Another final parting thought, if your kids are hanging out in the social circle where peers are having sex, again as a parent and your duty to raise upstanding citizens, maybe you shouldnt allow your child to hang out in that crowd. Again ignorance is bliss and thinking of this as "fixing a problem" is truly in itself a problem in your style of thinking. Cheers

"Easter" and "Christmas" are made up religious holidays. No, they are not as important as a life changing event like having a child.

You certainly cant deny that there are very powerful instincts and urges at that age that are going to occur no matter how well you parent. It's not that we are OK with sex at any age we just aren't naive enough to think that good parenting is going to be completely effective at stopping it.

Its not as if teen pregnancy is anything new. Its been happening forever. I think people should have the freedom to make their own choices when it comes to their own bodies and the government especially shouldn't be limiting what they can do.

I think part of the problem here is that some people have a very different view of sex. Did i read someone compare sex to cocaine earlier? wow.

Wow. Just wow, that is all I can say in regards to your argument and "ideas"

Well please elaborate on which part. I wasn't trying to attack you.

Do you disagree that teenagers experience strong sexual urges?
Do you think that good parenting will be 100% effective at preventing teen pregnancy?

Do you disagree that teen pregnancy is an old phenomenon?
Do you disagree with the idea that the government shouldn't regulate Plan B?

Your response: "Wow. Just wow" implies that what I said was so crazy that you are shocked. I'm not sure what is so unbelievable about it...

You miss my point completely. I just find it humorous how our society (liberalism) has gone to extremes to change our culture at the roots to something that frankly is very disturbing for a parent. We are wiping out our values and teachings that have made our society great. We are giving way to our "urges" and "sexual freedom." It is a sexual revolution, haven't you heard? Austin Powers would love it.

So, you have given up on good parenting, JD?? Sorry, your parents may not have done a good job on you, but mine have...and I see/feel/know the benefit of such and will, hopefully, pass it on in raising my kids. And YES, I DO THINK THAT GOOD PARENTING MAKES A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. THAT is no lie. THAT is what separates me from the liberals. THAT is what separates me from you.

Since teen pregnancy is forever, why is it that all of a sudden, Plan B is needed? What have most parents been doing the past 50 years? No, Plan B is needed because our culture has changed. Liberalism has taken over. THAT is why Plan B has become the focus of liberalism.

Urges you say? I am sure that there are powerful urges at any age. I really want a Rolex watch at a local Rolex dealer. Does that mean that I can shoplift? Since shoplifting has been happening forever and everyone does it (even old people, according to Seinfeld), should we make a law or "Get Out of Jail Free" card for those that do it? Maybe we should only allow one card per month? And you can ONLY use it 24 hours AFTER the shoplifting episode. BUT, this card does not protect you from a beatdown by the mall cop nor does it prevent you from the traumatic effect of a taser. People should have the freedom to dress themselves up with high-end bling!

No, the reason I don't steal that Rolex is because of how I was raised up. It was the values that were/are instilled in me by my loving parents. I know what is RIGHT and what is WRONG due to my parents doing a good job.

Did I read that someone compared fetus to blowing his nose??!! Yeah, you ignored that part completely and focus on cocaine analogy. Nice...I can see where your brain is going with that. :smashputer:

Is Plan B 100% successful at preventing teen pregnancy??? Wanna bet?! You talk big...lets see if you are willing to put your wallet where your mouth is. Oh wait, if you don't think that Plan B is 100% effective, then why are you expecting that parenting be 100% effective?? Why this double standard, JD??

I would bet that GOOD PARENTING is far more successful (and SAFER medically) than Plan B now AND in the long run for a kid. I know that this may come as a shock to you JD, but good parenting has OTHER BENEFITS besides abstinence!! Shocking concept, isn't it?! No, let the liberals destroy the foundation of such...but, we will always have Plan B for all the girls of all ages, right?

Regulate Plan B? Nah, it is already being brought up that Plan B is for all ages. How many 10 (or 15) year olds know about STDs or HIVs? Herpes? Herpes, like love, is forever ya know! How many know what HIV/AIDS can do? Kids probably just know it from seeing Magic Johnson and how good he looks! How many think that Plan B is the cure all? Unfortunately, the IMPORTANT part in sex education in school (aka consequences of sex) goes in one ear and out the other for these teens (or subteens). They only focus on the sex equating to pleasure and how cool it is. Yup, liberals trust these children to make the right decision and be educated/mature enough to know about it. Good luck with that.

lol i think it's better than chicks getting prego, enough teen mom in us already.

Aren't we just covering up the wound? Are we really treating the problem...the source of the problem? And you think that eliminating any utterings of any religious connotation in school helps in preventing prego chicks?

If someone has cancer, then you tell them to take Tylenol to cure it. Does that work? Yes, I guess Tylenol occasionally helps with fever associated with cancer...but does it really cure cancer? Before that person develops cancer, should we do a ton of X-rays and CT scans (aka expose them to lots of radiation)? Does that help cure cancer afterwards? How about putting a Band-Aid over a broken bone sticking out of your skin? Does that help? I am sure that the Band-Aid may help with the bleeding some. Does it solve the broken bone or help explain why you broke it in the first place so that you don't do that stupid activity again???

These may not be great analogies, but hopefully, you get my point.

And how often is the "government" wrong? I am in the medical field...and know first-hand how wrong FDA can be!! They have made numerous WRONG CALLS at the expense of patients. Weren't hormone replacement for women a "sure thing" medication at one point?

Weren't drugs like Prilosec or Prevacid (now over the counter) a sure thing too with no major side effects? Hell, Prilosec etc. were given out like vitamins (via prescription) to everyone. Only after 10-20 years of it are we now finding out the long-term effects of these drugs. But, no, that did NOT prevent it from being released out in the market for everyone with a dollar to buy.

Oh no, the government is never wrong when it comes to medical issues. Good luck with that line of thought.

Good parenting or not, unless you want to follow your children everywhere they go, this stuff happens. I wouldnt be happy with my daughter if she came home pregnant, id be furious in fact. But the first place we would go is to get plan b. A child is a serious matter and i dont think a young woman would be responsible enough for it. Yea its a popr decision at that age but shit happens, you cant rely on your stupid bible or good parenting to guide these kids completely. When mom and dad are around they arent naturally going to test the limits.

And this is from a guy who thinks snot and fetus are the same. Geez.

You are too focus on the end result, instead of looking at ways to prevent it from happening in the first place. Your way of thinking is part of the problem of teenage pregnancy...Plan B ain't the solution, by a long shot.

I like your last sentence... it's a novel idea... but damn it, that might work!
