150k service suggestions....

Yo everybody! Just looking for some people out there who have done their 150,000 service. I bought mine between 100k and now and she turned 155k today. So I figured now is as good a time as any to do the 150k service. I know what the dealer suggests to do at 150k but wanted to see what people have actually done/replaced/fixed, etc. and if it's actually worth taking it to the dealer (yikes! did i just say that). Is there anything major that should have been done between 100k and now? Just want her to run another 155k! Thanks!

Did Timing Belt, Water Pump, Thermostat, All Belts, Radiator coolant, oil change, Spark Plugs and Wires, Greased all Zerk fittings, checked brake pads & rotors, rotated tires, cleaned throttle body, replaced PCV valve and grommet.

Would have also done Ball Joints if mine had not been done about 50,000 miles ago by previous owner, was done for free by Dealership because of recall.
Ball joints still look very good.

Cost was $313 total for all OEM parts and $420 for labor.

right on. thanks for this. i think i'm going to follow this pretty closely except i don't know when/if the ball joints were done?? and going to upgrade the pads and have a look at shocks/struts. been looking all over the boards for suggestions on pads/shocks/struts but they seem to be all over the place with what people prefer...

Best place to get the Timing belt kit is from Ebay.
Although it has apparently gone up $67 from when I bought my kit about 6 months ago for $288.00. Finally just got around to using it a few days ago.

Its now $355.00 but it is a very good kit with all the OEM parts you will need.

Not sure if there is a better price out there now, but at the time 6 months ago and at $288 this guy had both the best price and best kit available that I could find.

Except it's time consuming (therefore expensive) and nearly all the rigs you see with 200k miles and over have never had it done....

My dealer even told me it was kind of a waste of money. Will I ever do it....maybe. But I wouldn't drop serious money on it.

Says who? Not the manufacturer. I made it 199,800 miles without ever needing any top-end work done.

i think i'm going to stick to the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, belts, radiator/engine/tranny flush (or cycle through till clean), plugs and wires, pads/rotors, shocks/struts (b/c i need 'em but still don't know which to go with when trying to get a nice smooth forgiving ride). if the t4r's are going 200k without messing with the valves, i think i'll steer clear of them. trying to do this as cheap as possible and don't want to get caught up in paying someone long hours...

There is nothing about scheduled maintenance in the Owner's Manual. That is all in the separate Scheduled Maintenance Guide. My '99 SMG has zero mention of valve maintenance or inspection from beginning to end. It only goes up to 120,000 and I'm at 143, 000, so I have done everything in there.

It wouldn't surprise me if some dealers charge you for valve adjustment at 60k along with changing the blinker fluid.

Just my opinion here but I don't think that is in the owners manual of ANY car sold in the US.

When it comes to engine work, if its not broke then don't fix it. I assume you have no loss of power, no pinging, no engine issues at all...

Oh and don't go back to that dishonest / incompet mechanic. I am not a mechanic but I think they were clearly trying to screw you out of $700 plus possibly break a perfectly working engine.

I would only let the dealer do engine work or (preferred) a competent Toyota / Japanese only shop.

Whats crazy is that two shops told me about having the valves adjusted every 60k miles specialized in Toyotas. No my motor runs really good

My 2000 has 203,000 miles on it and has never had a timing belt or water pump. Just the basics. Oil/filter every 3-4k, plugs, wires, filter, etc.

I just had a check engine light with the P0171 code. Cleaned the mass air sensor and it's good as new again.

I'm actually gonna do the timing belt/water pump package soon. Gonna order the kit on eBay for $355.00 as well. While I'm in there I'll change the valve cover gaskets because they weep a bit, clean the throttle body, and check the valves. My guess is they don't need a thing.
