17 inch skinny tires question

Ive been running 255/75/17 for about 3 years now.. no issues planning to go up to a 285/75/17 33.8/11.4 inch tire

I ran 255/75/17 for 1 1/2 years and am now on 255/80/17. On road manners are fine. Squirreliness is mostly caused by bad alignments.

From what I gather, castor settings mostly combined with 2.5-3"+ lifts.

I run the Jeep 255/75/17 takeoffs at 9/32" tread depth, and they experience a bit more tread squirm upon heavy braking vs my winter tires that are 265/65/17, and at the end of their life at 6/32" depth. Partially due to smaller width, but also some to new tires with tall tread blocks.

They do ride noticeably more comfortable (both P-rated) and the taller sidewalls (and higher weight rating) should allow for either more comfort at the same psi, or allow you to run slightly lower psi to improve the ability of soaking up the bumps more than an equivalent 265/65.

Possibly a tiny bit more MPG, and oh, it makes your speedo read about 4.8% slower than what you are actually travelling at.. be aware of speed traps.
