18' Calvery blue TRD on order. Need help on a few decisions!

18' Calvery TRD Pro - hasn't arrived yet and still finalizing my plans for it...

1.)
Who makes the best nerf step bars? My dealer is trying to set me up with the predator steps and I'm worried they'll "catch" on things off-road. I do like the look of them though.


2.)
Stock cross bars. I ordered these. They're integrated into the roof rails and my concern is clearance for mounting a basket or other roof accessories. Am I crazy?

3.)
Sunroof. As I'm sure you all know TRD Pro doesn't come with a sunroof option. Dealer has a wabsato sunroof they claim looks stock with 3 year warranty on it. Am I crazy to consider this install?

4.)
Remote start. Same story here. Dealer can install but I've heard this might ruin my battery and cause trouble for the life of the truck. ???

As far as #3 is concerned - under no circumstances would I let them cut a hole in the roof. Nothing good can come out of this. I have a 2016 SR5P and the sunroof is only good for taking up headroom and rattling. In fact, I've considered trading for a 2017 without one. Just my opinion on the matter.

If you want to get after market running boards it comes down to wether or not you will be doing off roading. Personally, I am not a fan of any running board with steps as they are rock catchers to say the least. Plenty of functional slider type of options out there that are much better IMO.

As others have stated, go out and order your own outside of the dealer. You will get better products for your dollar.

I skipped the step rails and went with nfab rock sliders. Very clean look!

1. I would pass on these from the dealer. They will charge you more than what you could purchase them for. Figure out what you want then install them with the help of a friend, maybe a local off-road club could help with the install or find a shop to do it, they shouldn't be too hard.

2. I have no idea.

3. No way I would let anyone cut out my roof, I don't care how good the dealer tells you they are. It's just problems waiting to happen.

4. Up to you. I have an 2017 SR5 and miss remote start but don't like how the factory one works. I'm looking into aftermarket ones.

1) dealers like to put n fab predator bars on the pros. They work great for when women want to get in or out but they are no good off-road. I have them and like them but dealers tend to charge double what they are worth.

3) Do not do that.

4) I have the drone remote start. It sucks I don't recommend.

This is why TRD Pro owners get a bad rap. The answer is not to just throw money at things.

I'd say hang around these forums, do some research, and you'll learn a lot about what you need and what you don't need.

#2: What do you mean by "clearance for a basket"? If you are asking whether you can install a basket on top of the factory crossbars, the answer is yes. Also, the crossbars are not "integrated" into the rails. The crossbars can slide out of the rails. In other words, you can remove them if you don't like them.

#3: I had an aftermarket sunroof installed in my old 3rd gen 4Runner. Never leaked, never malfunctioned, never had wind noise. I had a positive experience. Despite my positive experience, not sure I would do it again... too risky. If it leaks, who deals with that warranty and who does the repair??? My 4th and 5th gen 4runners had/have factory sunroofs and I can't live without it.

#4: My 5th gen 4Runner came with remote start. I told the dealer I didn't want it, they can uninstall it, or give it to me free. The concept of remote seems stupid to me... but I live in south central Texas where we don't have winter and I park in a garage at home and work. To start the car with the remote, you have to be pretty close to the vehicle. Then when you unlock the door the engine turns off. I just don't understand the point. My recommendation: think about whether you really need this before throwing away money.

0.5- IMO. Cancel your order unless you want to pay ridiculous money for a Trail edition with an appearance package and special color. Then if you keep hangin out here you will buy new suspension, tires, rims, etc..and end up paying twice for those items. If you do purchase the PRO, oh well, it's your money. :brushteeth:

1- I'm a fan of the C4Fab sliders (cuz that's what I got:gossip

2-If all you are going to mount little items up there than a basket is fine, otherwise you will need a roof rack or something like the lowpro Yakima crossbars to carry any type of weight (RTT for example). In other words the OEM crossbars are limiting in the amount they can carry.

3-I would not let any one cut a hole in my brand new 4Runner. I don't have a sunroof but did on my last vehicle...I don't miss it.

4-I don't have a remote start but if you do some research it seems most here do not like the factory remote start.

Gotcha...sliders mount to the frame and are designed to support the weight of the vehicle, just didn't want to confuse anyone.

1) I have the Predator step bar, it came with my Pro. Given the choice I would
buy Rock Sliders.

2) Factory cross bars do come in handy, have them on my rig. But don't buy, if
your going to change out complete system down the road.

3) Never a big fan of Sunroof. At 6'1 it cuts down my head room.

4) I had the remote start on my 15 Pro. Came with the truck new, port add on.
Never ever used it. Waste of $$$ IMO.
