1983 vs. 1984/1985 Front Axle

You can use any toyota axle and gut it for all the parts then throw them in a trail gear driver side drop axle housing.

trailgear makes an axle housing that uses minitruck diff and outers with their custom axles to perfectly fit a tacoma.

You buy a toyota axle and use the parts off it, and swap it onto this axle. this way you keep all toyota parts, and don't mismatch gear ratios.

pretty much. WHere the 3rd goes in, in that pic, used to be the diff cover side. Cut cut cover of and drill/tap for studs. Then make thick cover for other side. Barnes4wd now makes a pretty sweet diff cover too which could work quite well.

That seems like a HUGE amount of work to put into an axle that will still be too short for the application.

Just get an axle that fits the application without butchering something that isn't up to par for the task.
