That almost brought a tear to my eye - the poor TLC was putting up a valiant fight to the bitter end. At least its executioner gave it due respect. Only the dumbest of dumbfukc politicians could of dreamed up this obscene waste of my taxpayer dollars.

I agree with Scoobs,the government isn't forcing people to buy new cars and they aren't being forced to buy GM vehicles;Toyota is doing brisk business too.
The program has actually worked by getting a lot of crap off the roads since most of the cars being turned in are junk but yes,a few gems might be victimized along with the crappy cars.

No duh, but you're missing the obvious point which is that our tax dollars were used to "incentivize" the owner to do it. It's plain dumb no matter how you slice it - if you can't see that then we'll just have to agree to disagree

I can understand your frustration from that perspective, but "incentivize", really??? Lets not victimize the owners that turned these vehicles in. You make it sound like some type of government witchcraft.
Some of these vehicles NEED to be trashed. But others (like the examples posted) lack common sense all together. Owned by people who don't appreciate what they have and never should have owned it to begin with. A land cruiser in that type of condition... not the kind of person you'd find posting on this site.

Sad thing is that it is not just the tax dollars being used for this. Since our nation has a $1,580,000,000,000 deficit this year alone (I have to type it out since I think it has more impact to see all those damned zeroes) this $3,000,000,000 boondoggle just adds to our nation's debt in the long-run for a what will be a completely failed program.
The September sales numbers will be abysmal I suspect and who knows how much of this C.A.R.S. money will have actually worked its way out to the dealers.......I think a lot of dealers are going to be left holding the bag on a lot of money for a variety of reasons. And it will result in bankruptcy and closures........Not necessarily a good thing in this economy.

I couldn't watch the whole vid, it just pisses me off too much.
The other B.S. part of the program is that the B.O. administration is using the whole "green" marketing campain, but they are crushing these cars and not parting them out. So, people will need to by new parts when they could have recycled used parts. How is this program environmentally friendly again????:wtf:

Again you're missing the point, my taxpayer money (or more accurately money our gov't borrowed from China as Cannondaleman pointed out
) WAS ALREADY used to essentially buy these vehicles and then to destroy them. That said, yes I'd have considered buying this old TLC (or preferably an old 1st or 2nd gen T4R which are also falling victim to this idiotic program) but not as a daily driver. IMO gov't should not be interfering with supply and demand - what is a high school kid bagging groceries supposed to buy now that many of the cheaper old "clunkers" have been taken out of the market?

I'm complaining less about the Gov't role and more with the public responsibility (doesn't mean I agree completely with the Gov't), but If I saw one of these "clunkers" on a lot for less than $4,500.00 I don't know if I could pass on it.
I could keep the miles down on my 4runner AND have a dependable Land Cruiser for kicks... I'd be in heaven.
