1989 vs 1988 Rear Leaf Springs

Hi everyone,

Is the suspension in the '88 the same as the '89? I am looking to replace the rear leaf springs. SDTruck Springs has them for 84-88 not 89. I thought maybe somehow I understood the body style changed halfway thru 1989, so
you could have a 1st or 2nd gen '89. I may be out in left field here though.

AFAIK all 89s are leaves.
I know mine is.

The 89's use different spring bushings than 86-88, so there's a good chance that the 89 leaf springs have some differences.

There are a couple websites that they are listed for the '89 also "guaranteed correct part".
I will have to take my chances, but yes it does appear I need specific bushings. Those don't appear to be a problem to find.

It can be fairly common to see this type of thing happen.



Likely, the springs are interchangeable throughout different years, yet may feature a different bushing outer diameter or bolt size.


A great example of this: All 1967-1981 Chevrolet Camaro front control arms are interchangeable, yet they feature 6 different bushing sizes throughout those years. A lot of these cars have had parts swapped which makes identification of the proper bushing extra fun!
