Hi,
To start off, I don't know a lot about trucks/cars/anything with an engine. The 4Runner was my fathers and he passed it on to me once I learned how to drive stick. He was the only owner of the car and took good care of it.
I recently drove back to college (Stony Brook) and left the truck sitting for about two days. I knew the battery was going so I tried to start it once a day and run it for a little just to make sure it would start when I needed it to. 2 days ago, it wouldn't start. So I naturally thought the battery was finally dead after a long life and decided to replace it. Now here is where it gets stupid.
Replaced the battery, still having the same problem. I would depress the clutch and the engine would not turn over. Then I decided to use the Clutch Cancel Switch and the engine started right up. Apparently the clutch is not hitting the switch at the top of the pedal. The switch works, I tested it by duct taping it down and starting the engine up. Now I try to put it in gear, and the shifter will not go forward into first, or back into reverse. I have the clutch pedal on the floor of the truck when I'm trying to shift and it just isn't working. It will not go in gear. The truck was working fine before I parked it, but now it looks like I'm SOL until I get a proper diagnoses of my issue.
Also, I checked the brake and clutch fluid levels. The brake fluid level is below the minimum line, and the clutch fluid level is just below max. I know I should top off the brake fluid, but I don't think that will fix my issue.
