1990 Toyota 4 Runner 2 door-$900?

HI I'm new here
I am looking at buying a 1990 Toyo 4 runner 2 door with 139k for $900. The interior has a plexiglass window, rips in the front seat, and a disassembled rear panel. Has small spots of rust, next to no paint, and needs 2 valves replaced apparently...I wanna know, the engine is shaking really bad and the exhaust puffs out big amounts of air. It has little power and is running kinda rough. We tried seeing if the clynder #5 sparked, it did, same with #6 but both, if you remove them while the engine is running the 4 runner doesn't do anything. Now, if you remove one of the working clynder wires, the idle gets worse. Is this for sure the valves or the valve cover gaskets or what? Answer quick please!!! Knowing that this deal won't last for long, I wanna also know if it is worth it to buy, then sell for like 2k. Is it? LMK ASAP please! Thanks so much for reading this!

For what it's worth, last year I scored this 1st gen turbo for $900, it also having a blown motor/turbo, 264k, but no rust/damage. A 2 door 2nd gen is rare and definitely cool, but you know you'll be spending at least another 1-3k (depending on your attention to detail) before you're happy with the rig. I posted mine up for sale and it was on the market for a very long time, and the offers i got weren't around what I originally hoped for. Seems the market for selling rare project rigs at a premium has dwindled... He's probably willing to take $700 because he doesn't even want to deal with it.

It may need more than simply a few valves. If there's a valve problem, you might need head work, maybe a new head.
And then you have to wonder what kind of shape the rest of the engine is in.
Maybe the vehicle has been neglected or abused.

And a 2nd gen 2 door isn't really rare, there's not many around simply because they weren't popular with the 4 door available.

Personally, I'd buy it for around $600.

It's a good candidate for a 3.4 swap, better than spending way too much on that 3.slow. Stick a 3rd gen R150F behind that, you've got an indestructible 5 speed. Top that off with a 92-95 front end, finish the job with rust patching and a repaint. You can always supercharge the 3.4 as well.

Interior might be hard with a 2 door 2nd gen. At least the items from the 4 door that do fit are in abundance at local junkyards.

Of course, that is if you're looking for a long term project

I would say get it if you are prepared to spend the money on a PROJECT.

Nearly all second generation 4Runners were four-door models; however, from 1989 to 1993, a two-door model was also produced. These models are similar to the four-door models of the time in that the bodies were formed as a single unit, instead of the fiberglass tops used in the first-generation 4Runners. Two-door 4Runners of the second generation are extremely rare, probably due to higher importation duties and owner insurance costs. US sales ended in August 1992, but it continued to be available in the Canadian market through 1993

Two door 2 gens are rare. They only made them for a few years to compete with american 2door suv's like the explorer and blazer, but the government raised the importation cost on these models to keep the american car buyer, buying american cars.

All of your feedback is greatly apreciated. (I'm 16, and know Lexus really well, I am fixing up a Lexus SC400, and am brand new to the 4 Runners but know they hold value. My cousin knows Toyota's like the back of his hand, he has a Taco highly customized into a 4 wheeler. He's selling it BTW... )

They are pretty hard to locate. Manual SC's that is. Mine is unfortunately automatic. Best bet is to get one in bad condition and fix it up. That's what I would do.

Yep, in a boxen. No, actually I live in Rio Rancho, NM which is on the outskirts of Albuquerque. I was almost 2 hours away from the vehicle, which was one of the problems in collecting this 4R. BTW, He sold it yesterday, probably for $700.:nicethread:

It's very unlikely that you'd flip it for much of a profit. If it was a fun project instead, $600 is a good price.

Too bad it's so far away. I'd pick it up in a heartbeat.

Well, the 4 runners ended up being a little outta my price range. I have a 1996 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4X4 V6 4.0. Good enough. Will let you guys know when and if I get a 4 runner in the mere future!
