1991 Back Door Dash Light

The Back Door dash light is appearing, which in turn means I can't roll the rear window back up or use the rear wiper/defrost.

I tried removing the sensors on both sides, but the light is still there.

I'm about to give up and hand it to my Yota Mechanic.

Could it be a corroded wire or maybe the relay is busted?



Would disconnecting the sensors, and dis/reconnecting the battery reset the light?


Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that sensor works on resistance so if you wanted to delete that sensor you would have to solder in a resistor I just don't know what the resistance value is.
If it's a grounding circuit where all you need to do is have it ground to turn off then that's easy just ground it.

I'm not really mechanically inclined, so I need a bit of elaboration on the solutions you provided.


For the first one, would I have to cut the wires from the sensor, strip them and solder on a resistor cap?

The second one, how can I ground it? I have no clue how to do so.

Grounding would be to make the wire touch metal this can be tested easily by running a jumper from the plug to the body.

As for the resistor method you will need electrical experience to do.

Sorry, I have a hard time finding the rear door schematic on the FSM above.
However, most of these sensors work by grounding the door control relay inputs. IF OP already removed sensor but the fault light still comes on, highest probability is the wire is shorted to ground.
Inspect the wiring and most especially the flex connector that connects door to body for worn out insulation.
