1991 t4r tailgate window problems

Holy Cow! Could it get any worse? My tailgate window will not go down. Common problem as I am to find out. Okay, I replaced the control module with a known good unit. No go. I replaced the motor with a new one. No go. Now what? As a side note; I found a pair of wires on drivers side inside gate that are one black, the other white/blk stripe and red hash marks about every inch. What is that for? It has quite obviously been torn loose from somewhere, but where? Maybe that's my gremlin? Any advice and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. "workarounds" like bypassing switches and such also welcomed at this hour. Did not realize how much I missed the back half of my truck till it's gone.

Quick fix would be a 6 prong 3 position switch(self returning to middle of course). and use two wire tie in's just before the blue connector to the window motor so that one day when you fix it right you can just pull off the wire tie in and you will not have to cut anything. Use your window with caution lol.

Thanks klab. I am using this setup to work out the problems correctly. Someone should just sell this device already made. When the window is in the up position it is hard to get anything done without the assistance of another person to work the key or switch. Very handy indeed! I put my switch in a little project box, labelled the up/down, nice long supply cable so I can use it anywhere. I may just leave it in the truck for emergency use! Cha Ching.

Actually, I *could* make a replacement box (been thinkin' 'bout it for a while), made out of transistors and/or IC modules.. Small piece which would be very easy to connect...

I have this problem ocasionally each winter (the weather up in the highlands does wonders to these back windows, as well as my drivin' habits in snow... lol)

This little box will come in handy some day I am sure of that. *update*After troubleshooting for some time, I unplugged the sensor at the top of the tailgate, drivers side. I jumpered the connector and voila, the cargo light worked. Curiosity then prompted another try with the window and it too worked! Eureka! It worked however whether the connector was jumpered or not. It seems to me this is a switch to turn the cargo light on and off and disable power to the window otherwise? Whatever. I left it unplugged, unjumpered and went about the task of retaping the entire wiring harness and wire tie evrything in it's proper place. Once done, everything cleaned and lubricated, all panels back in place; It's like new! except the light which hasn't worked in years, though I suspect I know how to get it to at least work manually now. Thanks for all of your help guys.
