1993 Overheating!

My girl just bought a 1993 Toyota 4Runner 3.0L; I'm a Ford/Diesel guy so while the same, not!

Overheating, blew the line going into the heat coil off. I flushed it out today a good amount of rust! Got it pretty cleaned out, new thermostat, all hoses are good; started the truck up while I was finishing it and running the hose through it and the upper return hose "popped/thud'd" whe the water was released back into the radiator to cycle.. I mean it was enough to make the hose visually move! Scared her lol... Finally got it filled up and wasn't overheating until it was one the road; made it 1/2 block and it died,twice.. Any help is greatly appreciated as it has to be up and running tomorrow and NO there is no white smoke in regards to really blown head, thanks!

You can still have a bad head gasket even if it isn't blowing white smoke.

You could have a situation where the gasket leak is from the cylinder into the coolant. Over time the leak would end up leaking into the oil galleries. Also I wouldn't run it if it's over heating. That's usually enough to cause headgasket failure on these things. I personally won't buy another 3L V6 Toyota because I don't trust the head gaskets after mine blew.

If it is the head gasket go to a Toyota dealer and have the service guy check to see if it was done under the recall yet. I have other posts on how they replaced my head gasket - no charge. They have no deadline on the recall but they only do it once.

The stat could be in backwards or defective. I check new stats by putting them in a pot of boiling water on the stove to make sure it opens. You can get really fancy and use a thermometer to check the exact temp that it opens and closes.

Check the water pump, fan clutch etc.

still overheating and building a lot of pressure in radiator; when the cap is removed and engine running you can feel the air coming out of the radiator... I've had nothing but Ford Diesels all my life and when I experienced this in those = failed heads.... I dont have all my equipment shipped up here yet to pressure check things... Any ideas to trouble shoot this easily?

Def sounds like a blown head gasket...especially if you can feel air in the system and it builds up pressure...mine would just blow coolant out the overflow tank...but you are lucky enough to have a good indicator of failed head gasket. I dont have any advice on how to check it without a pressure tester but even with that all you will see is a loss in pressure and maybe some steam when you start the engine up afterwards...

Head gasket.
And check the radiator for rust up. Mine was shot.
I bought mine with a bad head gasket, disclosed, and found it had sat for a while before I got it, which caused the radiator to completely gum up. The stopleak didn't help too.
