Hello,
I got a question for anybody out there who either has a 1994 4Runner, or who knows their stuff. I've had mine for about 5 years now. It has about 99K on it. It's a V6, 3.0 Liter, 2WD, automatic. Here's the problem. Ever since I bought it, it's always been slow to accelerate. Whenever I step on the gas, the engine revs up, but the truck seems to need way too much gas to get moving and to keep moving. In other words, it has no pep whatsoever. Now I know its not a race car, I'm not expecting 0 to 60 in 5 seconds, but what it's doing now is ridiculous. The best way to describe it would be to say that it seems like I'm driving it with the parking brake on. But I know that the parking brake is most definitely NOT on. So why is the truck so hard to get moving? Are all 94 4Runners this way? Is this normal? It just seems like a really slow truck. And that's not to say that it doesn't have power. The engine SOUNDS real strong, but it just doesn't seem to be moving the truck like it should. Like I said, it feels as though I should be able to reach down and release the parking brake and say "oh, the brake was on"! But it's not. It's just not getting going for some reason. Here are some more of the "symptoms" or things I find to be different from all other vehicles I have driven. The accelerator pedal seems stiff, or harder to push down, than anything I've ever driven. Is that normal compared to other 4Runners of this year? Also, when I first start it up, I have to keep the back windows rolled up because the odor of gas/exhaust is really bad. I'm pretty sure that's not normal. Just thinking that might give some insights as to what the problem might be. May be totally unrelated. I got a new cat converter and O2 sensor 2 years back hoping that would help the exhaust problem but it did nothing. I always have a hard time getting it to pass the smog check. The smog problem is a pain in the a** but I'm more concerned with the slow acceleration problem. It really seems to take way too much gas to get this thing moving and to keep it moving. I love this truck though, so I don't want to sell it. I just want it to run like it should. Anybody got any ideas of what the problem could be? Thanks in advance. -Chuck
