1996 4-runner Radio/CD/Amp

I have just recently purchased a 1996 Radio/cassette with the CD player and amp.

I currently own a 1997 Toyota 4X4 x-tra cab (tape player went bad, won't take tapes anymore).

I installed it this morning all stock wiring appears compatable. However all the tape deck does is "click" over and over again without any existing life from the new radio.

Question: does my 4X4 already have and amp and how would I be able to tell?

Does anyone know if the 4-runner system would not be compatable with my Toyota?

I'm familiar with the single DIN units where the CD is separate single DIN add on unit. On them the radios with the separate amp seem to all say anti-theft on the cassette door. They have a single plug from the amp and the double plug goes to the amp. Check out pictures at www.oemvalue.com. Do you have rear speakers in your pickup? That would probably be the second smaller plug. Is perhaps the fader set to rear and you don't have rear speakers? (Don't think it is good for amp in radio not to have a speaker load on all channels). Post picture of the back of your new radio and maybe the old one.
