so I put it on craigs list local. Some guy call me right away and is coming over to take a look. hard to find mildly rusted 3rd gen frames in my neck of the woods. see if I can get $500 to fund the interior portion of purple truck.

500 seems fair for the frame but if it comes with the drivetrain id definitely ask for a bit more.

My boyhood dream of having bolt on sliders is almost a reality.

I finally got a chance to layout the sliders. tacked them up and my welding is getting a bit better. I still need to figure out some gussets but that is pretty easy. then some DTM chassis paint. since they are bolt on... my god man they bolt on! I know, I know calm yourself.

I was a bit surprised but they bolted up without much issue. I figured they would distort but the holes lined back up pretty good.

a little bit of progress

this truck is back on the road and I have logged a couple hours of teenager in training driving log! oh yea! teenager driving. My son needs 50 hours, and 15 of that being at night before he can take his driving test.

anyways... I did the seats with new foams and seat heaters, I also washed the seat covers in the wash machine to remove that previous owners fart smells. I swear it takes so much funk out of the used trucks to do this. suck it febreze.

I was super freaking blood pressure off the charts about the driver side seat belt. I did not take a shot of it before but it was dog chewed and resisted being rolled back up no matter what!

Since this was the first time I attempted this... I swapped in an extra seatbelt I had in reserve and sent the good one to safety restore. they don't have moon mist blue as a stock choice so I went with their gray. it works fine with the interior color scheme and focking "A" is it nice to have a new seatbelt that works perfect. they did a great job and I'm sending the passenger side as well. also thinking about doing my 2000 tan.

We are getting better each day.

I have always just used the dorman ones from Amazon.

This is my 6th seat and they seem to work just fine. The oldest install I have still in my possession is from 2017 and it still warms the backside just fine.

they are really easy to find now, it just depends on how much you want to spend. I watch for a bit to see if I can get a special or discount code or something and then grab one here or there. it helps to be drinking while shopping online, helps soften the blow mentally.

LOL, I tell myself dollars here n there on Runner beats a monthly car payment Small Batch 1792 hangover, huff on oxygen bottle.

Purchased seat bottom at dealer time for back pads, new sources pop up time to time.

steering wheel and sliders

got my steering wheel back from CraftCustoms in TX, as always they do a great job and it's like factory fresh.

I also finally finished up the sliders, got 2x coat of DTM epoxy and 1 coat of chassis paint on them, we will see how well that does with the salt this winter. It was a huge pain to do this but... at least I can take them off if I want and or re-paint them once they get scratched.

Its good to see these toys get saved and not just junked.

Did you make transmission splash guards? Frame to skids area behind front tires.

I have had full skids on and get tons of mud buildup on top of the skids.
I may have to do something like that.

Cardboard sheets help insulate old bones from that unyielding concrete floor.
Knee pads helps too, i have to pre-prep to do work anymore with a couple Tylenol.

You can jam that winch solenoid box anywhere, just extend the wires to the plug.
Pull the soleniod cover snip and extend the wire to the length you need, mount the plug where you want. The plug that the wired remote control plugs into.
Probably not news.

I keep all the good sized cardboard from boxes for exactly that purpose, it's way better than concrete. also works well when you know fluids are going to spill.

No I have not done any special splash guards, other than stock ones. I tend to only run my heavy skids when I know I'm going offroad. I have been thinking an underbody cover would do wonders in the winter to avoid salt damage. just not sure how somebody would do it.

it does keep junk out of that area, it's only plastic and if you hit it hard offroad it tends to break.

Do you know what the physical differences are for the different part numbers of seat back & pad cushions for 4runners with manual seats? These are the part numbers I got from my local Toyota parts for my 02 SR5:

Passenger: 71511-35040 (71501-35030 discontinued pn)
Driver: 71501-35010

Seat back cushion:
Driver & passenger: 71551-35040 (same pn for both)


At a quick glance it looks like the different part numbers are associated with certain options like seat adjustments, lumbar support, etc. I assumed the manual seats were the same until I started looking at it in more detail. I wonder if the different part numbers & features for manual seats will make a difference in how they install?

Definitely *not* stock on all of them. Many did get it, and many of those have been ripped off or removed by now too.

The seat bottom difference will be the occupancy sensor for the passenger seat. The foam itself should be the same. Make sure you get the correct 'version' (sport vs. regular). I was able to transfer the occupancy sensor over to new (errrr... re-used, but better shape) foam and held it down with some spray adhesive.
