1998 4runner - Need help

So I just got my first car, an amazing 1998 4runner with 133k miles. Its very clean and nice. I've already got a brush guard on the front, and I've bought caps for the rims to replace the faded ones and a new black fiberglass dash kit to replace the faded wood one.

Anyways, I was wondering if I wanted to upgrade the speakers, what should I do? I want to put a sub in the back, but I don't know all the functionality of each part (e.g. what amp, head unit, front and back speakers, etc.) or what I should get. What can I get for starters to have nice clean, bassy sound but for a good price. I don't want to spend a TON of money, but I don't want to buy crap. Thanks!

(I've tried to look around, but its a bit overwhelming, also where can I get it installed because I don't know if I can do it myself, thanks)

I'm sorry, I don't know much about car audio anymore, but where did you find the black dashboard trim kit? My wood is in bad shape too and it would look a lot better with black.

I recently bought a '98, my first order of business is making sure everything is running correct. Instead of a bull/brush guard I think I would rather invest in a new radiator. I still have the stock radio/speakers in the runner and instead of upgrading that I think I would rather get some new meats.... make sure its running in good condition before sinking money in "cosmetic" upgrades.

If I did feel like upgrading the sound system I would get the Kenwood digital radio Head Unit (usb/iphone ready). Replace the 6 six stock speakers with decent re-plugs - I wouldn't want to do any cutting so get the same size.

This is how I set mine up. The front speakers I replaced with Infinity 6.5" 2-way speakers. I can't remember the model but for the price they sound great. I still have the factory rear speakers in and they are holding up so far. Eventually I might replace them and the front tweeters. I am using the head unit's power for the speakers and a mono block amp for the 10" Kicker in the back. This setup still leaves plenty of room in the back (i just helped someone move the other day and put two dressers in the back with the seats down) and gives out good sound. Try to buy decent stuff the first time so you don't have to go about it more than once. Some people don't believe that I only have one 10" so I think I'll keep it.

For the dash trim, I just searched online and found a black carbon fiber one, the price is kind of steep but it's a huge difference in the interior
