My 1999 4runner w 160K miles started stumbling on the freeway on Sunday, right after I filed up gas.
By Monday it started throwing P0300 and P0303 codes, drivability was impacted and it was running rough. Suspected perhaps bad gas.
By Tuesday it was throwing P0300, P0303 and P0306 codes and it was real rough running, sometimes not able to get over 25mph.
I researched the issue, got real scared at some of the threads I read, and decided to do the least expensive thing first; I replaced spark plugs. I got the NGK BKR5EKB-11 (PN 3967) standard copper plugs.
I started by changing #3 as it was the first cyl it complained about, made no difference.
Then, because it was easy, I changed plugs 4, 5, & 6... PROBLEM GONE :trophy:
I still plan to go back and change plugs 1 & 2, I just need more time to remove the brackets in the way, but I'm happily surprised that the least expensive fix worked.
I'm also thinking about replacing the plug wires with the NGK TE-66 (PN 4412) wire set - will I need any additional parts for that swap?
Also haven't done timing belt yet... I got a quote for $750 out the door to have it done - I don't feel like spending a day+ to learn to do this once...
