1999 4runner bumpy ride

I have a 2wd 99 4runner and the ride is very bumpy. I can feel every bump on the road. It fells like the shocks are dead and I just replaced the shocks with monroe shocks from O'reilly's mid last year. Is there anything else I need to look into? Tires will be replaced this weekend and brakes were replaced mid last year also.

I do have lifetime on them and do plan to switch them out. If they are giving me the same bumpy ride I will just invest in better shocks.

Did you install an OE replacement shock or install a stiffer monroe? I have seen this happen with no oem shocks. Aftermarket shocks, even OE style replacement usually little stiffer than oem shocks. This can cause stiff ride.

Also what tires you running? High load tires for towing or over inflation can cause a harsher ride also.

Well I know you have after market. When did the ride get like this? Before or after shock replacment. There are lots of types of monroe shocks. Which ones did you install?

I had stock before and it was getting bad for awhile. I had the aftermarket sitting in the garage for a year before I used them. I'm not exactly sure of the model number. I think it was the cheapest ones. I didn't know much when I bought them.

He's asking did the ride improve when you installed the new shocks or get worse?

Im also wondering which tires you're running? I had a rodeo way back in the day that had a set of very old generals on it that gave a bumpy ride...as in i could feel every bump in the road. While im sure the old worn out factory suspension i had on it didnt help smooth out the ride any, when i switched to a new set of michelins, the ride significantly improved. Still road like it had an old suspension but definitely lessened the "feeling every bump in the road" type ride. I don't remember which generals i had or which michelins I switched to as this was 15+ years ago but do remember new tires made a noticable improvement. I agree that a stiffer shock can give a bumpier ride too but just thought i'd chime in regarding the tires as a process of elimination since u mentioned u were going to get new tires anyway.

Side note, no disrespect on generals. They make good tires, i just happened to have a set of very very cheap old ones.

I'm running 15' Hankook Optimo H724 tires. I had the same set of tires for 10 years now (2 sets 5 years each). OEM shocks was going dead and I switched them out. now it feels worst than ever.
