1999 4runner Heater not hot

:flame:Can anyone suggest or have an algorithm for checking the heating system in a 1999 4runner? My heater this past winter would only get moderately warm. Everything seems to work fine, but the temp. isnt getting as hot as it used to.

99% of the time its low coolant from a leak and the hot fluid cant make it to the heater core.

If your coolant level is good, check the thermostat. It may be stuck open keeping the coolant from getting warm enough to heat the heater.

....or you may have an air pocket. Park on a moderate upgrade or with the front wheels up on a curb. Remove rad cap and start engine. Run until thermostat opens (you will see flow in top of rad) and then a few minutes more. If you're lucky some air will burp out. Turn off engine, replace cap, allow to cool. Add fluid if needed.

If still no heat, verify linkage to heater valve. Make sure it goes to hot end of range. See if both hoses are hot.

Still no joy? Flush heater core.

I would also check the linkage on the heater core valve that's mounted on the firewall in the engine bay. It broke on my 95(same design) and I had to manually turn it off in the summer and back on when it starting getting cold again.
