Hey everyone! i just joined and i have a question...

I am going to buy my first car at the end of this summer and of course i want a 4runner. I have been doing some research on them and i need help deciding between a '99 and a '00 runner (sr5 or limited as well). I live in WA state and i will be using this car to commute across the state to my college a 280 mile drive, over mountains at a point (snowy and icey haha). Help me out here, thanks!

Me personally, a 99. Having a 99 already lol. They are very, very good trucks. they are basically the same. Motor, trans, suspension, exc. sr5 would be a more reasonable choice, they are 4wd. If your getting used, you will be in the green with one that has less than 150,000mi and that has had the timing belt done. You will have absolutley nothing to do with it, but put gas in it and go. Also be sure to check all fluids, for level and color. the radiator holds both coolant and transmission fluid, and they have had issues with them mixing together. Simple fix, if fluids are good add a external transmission cooler and separate the two before it happens. Otherwise, 5 stars on a 99 sr5.

thank you!

You cannot go wrong with either year.; they are both great years. Personally, I wouldn't worry about which year, but which truck is the best in either year.

There is no mechanical difference between those years. Only thing that changed was the shape of the mirror and the type of fender flares on the SR5s.

Just to clarify Ripcord means between 99's and 00's. Not to be confused with SR5's and Limiteds as those have mechanical differences in the 4wd system. I would go with either year, but probably go with a Limited over a SR5 because of the AWD in the Limited. It would be a better 4wd system for you if you are driving icy roads a lot at high speeds.
