1999 T4R. Too good of a deal to be true???

1999 4Runner SR5, 169,000 miles. New BFG At's, towing package, one owner from a private party seller. Truck has what looks to be a factory hood scoop and is dark green in color. He is asking $5100 for the truck. Too good to be true??? Is this the highlander package I have heard about?

If it's a '99 with the sport hood and black fender flares then it is the famed Highlander package. I would scoop that up fast. That's like the ideal 4Runner for a lot of people, myself included.

If you plan on leaving the pavement then check for the e-locker.

Truck is located like 4 hrs away from me, and I think I am going to make the trek tomorrow and check it out. Anything that is critical I should be looking out for or listening for? This will be my first Toyota and although they are bulletproof, 169,000 miles seems like alot on paper. I will def, look for the e-locker although it is in no way a requirement for me. As stated, with or without the e-locker, I assume $5100 for the truck is a good deal?

just check the fluids and see if they're filled properly, and clean. also ask if they have records of the maintenance. I would call that person today, ask for the VIN number, and run the VIN through CarFax or something similar.

I did this to my previous civic and 4runner. For the miles? I wouldnt worry, my 99' has 150,xxx and runs like a beast. Just keeping up with its scheduled maintenance and it'll be golden

Or so it seems. The exaust is very strong smelling almost sweet. i know these are controlled by computer but what could cause the problem?

I will call him in the morning, and hopefully make the trip to see the truck. I really hope it is everything it seems in the pics and description. Four hours is a good drive to come home empty handed. The price, while I'm not complaining, seems really low though. Who knows, maybe he is just trying to unload it. We'll see

Just listen for whining coming from the rear end cause that means you would have to replace the 3rd member, check when the timing belt was changed and look at the amount of rust.

Did not get a chance to look at the 4Runner. Sent the guy an email, and have not heard back from him. May try again and call him tomorrow, or I may just keep looking. As far as the price, I guess I thought It was way better than anything I've seen. Most 99's especially from dealers are going for 6,500 to 8,500 for similar models.
