199mm Tundra Brake parts

I'm looking to do the upgrade to the 199mm Tundra brakes. I know why not do the 231's...I just don't want to run into problems with wheel fitment or something down the line.

Anyhow, anyone know the part numbers for the oem pads? Remember, I'm using the 199mm not the 231's.
Also, anyone know if there is some other parts need besides the pads (shims, etc...)

Search for a 2001 Tundra.

Then select Power Train/Chassis, then 47-05 Front Disc Brake Caliper & Dust Cover. Should be the first item listed, PAD KIT, DISC BRAKE, FRONT.

If you want another option, though, these are what I used for my 199s:
Calipers: Advance Auto Parts, Buy Fenco Disc Brake Caliper, Front Left SLC9689 at Advance Auto Parts (left) and Buy Fenco Disc Brake Caliper, Front Right SLC9688 at Advance Auto Parts (right)
Rotors: Amazon.com, Brembo 25534 (x2)
Pads: Amazon.com, Akebono ACT812 (1 set)

I just sourced parts that would fit a 2001 Tundra.

Total cost ~$300 (not including the $100 core charge you pay up front for the calipers but that you get back when you return the old ones)
 
side question, i was wondering about this as well, since toyota stopped using the 199mm set up and it was basically a 1-2 year production run, what do you guys think the parts availability will be like for 199mm pads and rotors and such in say 5-6 years?

i was wondering if these parts will be continued to be made and supplied indefinitely........
 
Just a guess, but I would imagine that availability will outlast most of our trucks. We're already 10-15 years old. Another 5-6 years and we're pushing 20. If you're worried, then stock up now!
 
199mm tundra brake

I've looked up the Tundra on partzone and it lists 3 pads. One has been replaced by another so actually there are only 2 but it scares me that 2 are showing up. I want to make sure it's the one for the 199mm calipers.
There is also a shim kit and fit kit shown but I don't know if these are needed. Anyone else buy OEM pads for their Tundra brake upgrades?
 
So I will be doing the 199mm or 231 in just a little bit here.

Are these all the parts I would need? Leaning more towards the 199mm as I'm a little worried to grind down my rims and Calipers to fit the 231 even though I think they are better priced. Just seems you should not grind down those parts.

Please chime in if these Autozone parts are not the way to go. :)

2 calipers, 2 rotors, and a set of pads. That's about it. Brands are up to you. The pads should come with shims, and if you prefer to use the clips from your old calipers instead of the ones that come with your new ones, you can. Get a bottle of brake fluid, too, to replace what you lose when you bleed.
 
Price it out at www.rockauto.com and save a bunch of money. Google the coupon code and save an extra 5%.

The 199mm calipers are part number S13WE and the pads will have the 4.7" backing plate. The Wagner ThermoQuets have been great for mine so far.
 
rock auto not all that great of a deal

I did price it out a rock auto and it's not that great of a deal as you need to pay to send the cores back so don't forget about the cost of shipping. Plus they don't have the Brembo rotors and you can get them for under $50 each on amazon. Advanced has a 25% off brakes deal going on now and they have the Akebono pads for $50. I'm a little leary using the Fenco calipers but with the discount it's the same as rockauto. I wish autozone had a discount like this as I like their calipers.
 
The calipers I got from Advance (linked above) work great, but they have developed some surface rust, giving them a burnt orange color. I've heard this is common with remans, but not sure which brands are better than others about it. A preventative would be to paint them before putting them on, which I should have done. That is seriously my only complaint about the whole process, though.

Still researching which pads I should go with. Was thinking OEM but don't want to get raped at the service counter. Wish I would have ordered them along with my LBJ's as they are only $55 online. Still not sure which brand rotor either but they all seem like they are made in China so I guess no difference unless I go $90+ on them
 
I have the Autozone rotors with the 199 calipers and I keep warping the rotors. I'm not sure if it's the cheapo rotors or not but I don't use the 4Runner for towing and I drive pretty mellow. I think I'm going to get the rotors turned and use some factory pads.
 
With the Brembo rotors and Akebono pads mentioned above I have had no problems at all in over a year. You may be overthinking it a little, which I totally get because you want to get it right. Akebono was/is the OEM supplier for several makes/models. Not sure specifically whether the Tundra was one, but they were for my wife's Nissan.
 
Going to buy the Tundra 199mm Pads at the dealer for $80 (would do internet but want to do the job this weekend). Will they come with shims or will I have to buy them separately?
 
difference between 199 and 231

First I am sorry to revive this older thread!

So... I guess my biggest question and concern is regarding the difference between the 199mm and 231mm brakes?!

Is the difference in the rotor? The caliper? The pads?

The only rotors I can find are 318mm in diameter. And I have not found any difference in calipers.

Please can someone help clear this up for me?! THANK YOU!
 
The rotors between the two are the same. The 231mm and 199mm calipers are in fact different sizes. Essentially the 231mm is longer than the 199mm, which gives you two different pad sizes as well. They are also stamped different. I have learned that you need t know what you are looking for, as the parts counter guy will easily confuse the two.
