199mm Tundra Brake parts

Really? Literally 5 seconds before I posted that message it worked for me... Weird.

Edit** still does.

The one in post 19? I get a 404 error every time I click it. Maybe something to do with the browser. I'm using the stripped down touch version of IE. It has a few known issues with forums but the links have always worked for me.

Oh, I didn't even see that post. I was using the one in 16.

Freshley,
I don't remember getting shims with mine, however I did try to use the old spring clips (W clips) which broke and resulted in an annoying rattle from the pads. I would recommend getting the fit kit from the dealer (about $4.27). It's the "W" shaped wire bridging the pads in the assembly.

Would you happen to have the part numbers for the retaining springs and pins on the 199mm calipers?

P.S. it's better to have two retaining springs on each caliper rather than one. Per Toyota's installation manual for the pads.

I tried with just one but it applied uneven pressure on the pads for me and the opposite side was popping off. Just a head-up.

Sorry, no I don't have those part numbers. I do know that there is a fit kit that does include either one or both of those components, however I opted for the "spring only" kit.

Nashvegas.. I know this is old thread but I got your exact part list about a year ago and was putting them on today finally. Those brembo rotors were all over the dust shield the whole way around. I had to bend the shields back to get them off the rotors. Is that normal for the upgrade? Just curious if that is gonna give me a rubbing problem down the road.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

That's not normal, I think your dust shields must have accidentally been bent at some point. The only time the dust shields are an issue is for the larger calipers, you have to trim some off to get them to fit.

The difference is contact patch.. the contact patch pad to router is bigger on the 231. it will stop harder. I've been running the 100 setup for nearly 4 years now, with the ABS functional. without any issues. breaks great, with 3 inch lift and 34 inch tires.

I just read a post where the guy compared the 199 pads with the 231 pads and the actual pad size (not including backing plate) was the same for both. The only difference was the size of the backing plate. I postulated then that maybe the only benefit to the 231's is better heat dissipation with the 231mm rotor due to the extra area/mass of the larger rotor and not so much with the size of the caliper. If there is a problem with the 199 rotors warping and, I'm not sure there is, that might explain why Toyota switched to the 231mm rotor after a two year run with the 199's. In any event, my 3rd Gen is a RWD that I don't use to tow, carry heavy loads, or have big wheels and tires on so I think the 199's will work fine for me especially since the 231's won't fit my 16" OEM split 3 spoke wheels. I wish I knew how much extra stopping power comes with the extra 4MM of the 231's vs the 199's. That would help with the cost benefit analysis considering in my case I would have to replace the wheels and maybe even the tires too if I went with a 17"+ rim. Given what I know at this point I'm going with the 199 upgrade and get a pair of high quality cross drilled rotors (Stop Tech Drilled Cryo Brake Rotors) just to be safe.

When you say you have been running the "100 setup" do you mean you are running the 199mm calipers and rotors? Also, are you running the 16" OEM split 3 spoke wheels with the upgraded brakes? Thanks.

Anyone have any insight on calipers? I can get Raybestos for pretty cheap on parts geek ($65+$40 core charge), $90 for Napa parts, or $140 for LCE Performance. Seems like most are remanufactured, so wondering if anyone has opinions on this. I have seen a lot of people post about using Duralast also, but have heard they tend to rust. Would rather get some with a coating like the Napa calipers. Looking to do the 199mm. Thanks for the help

Bumping an old thread with a question -- new to the forum.

I'm currently running a 231mm 13WL brake upgrade. Had the calipers shaved down to fit my OEM double 3 spoke wheels (16s) and within a week was leaking brake fluid from the top of one of the calipers. Took it to the shop and they said it was a one in a million chance, put on a new caliper for free and shaved it down but I'm still a bit skeptical about the step to shave off the edges off the calipers (even if it's just 1mm or so.)

I'd like to keep the OEM wheels so the way I see it I have three different options now:
1. Stick with my shaved calipers and sit paranoid wonder when/if I start to leak brake fluid again. (This is where I'm at...not gunna do this for too much longer)

2. Buy new 13WL calipers and get spacers for my wheels. I don't know what I should look for in spacers as I've avoided doing this in any other vehicle I've owned. If anybody has suggestions / knowledge about how structurally safe / how long spacers would realistically last that would be awesome.

3. Swap to a 199mm set up -- I've seen a good amount of posts about getting either or but I'm curious about what I'd need to install in this switch. Looks like the rotors stay the same size I'd just need to get new pads. I found this thread about parts for the 199mm upgrade. Just curious if anyone else has downgraded from the 231mm to the 199 and what they have noticed performance wise. I will also be driving in the snow and rain a fair amount and I've seen that ABS can be an issue for the 231mm but haven't heard about that issue for the 199?

I haven't done it but i'm sure you're going to have to replace both rotor and caliper since the rotor and caliper are a bit smaller than the 231mm (i'm sure).

In all the part lists / threads I've read so far people have suggested the same rotors for both brake upgrades?
