1GR-FE 200K Maintenance

Hey all,

My trusty V6 2006 4runner is hitting 200K, I haven't had any problems with the water pump but I'm thinking of changing it preventatively. I do have the timing cover oil leak issue so I was going to check that out as well. I've read that putting some gasketmaker on the outside can resolve the timing leak as its low pressure.

So now my question to you all, are there any other things you would do while I'm at it? Pullies? Thermostat? Fan Clutch? Other than maintenance items (plugs, oil, battery, ect. ) I haven't had to change anything but the serpentine and alternator at this point.

Congratulations on hitting the 200k mark. I'd give the radiator a good look if you're changing the water pump, a lot of them fail at the lower corners over time. Radiators are relatively inexpensive too.

I also hit the 200k mark this past month. I'll build on wsgoat's recommendation on replacing the radiator and recommend looking into adding an in series (not a bypass) transmission cooler. Especially worth considering if you're running bigger tires, tow, or carry weight.

Pulleys are an easy fix and relatively cheap. If your OEM ones have lasted till 200k, they may be on their last legs.

Take a look at your power steering fluid and consider flushing it.

Also consider replacing your transmission fluid. Toyota's states that the ATF in our transmission is a "lifetime fluid." This is true, but also misleading. Lifetime should be considered the "expected life" of the 4Runner. I'm not aware of an official figure, but given how old our cars are now, typically a good idea.

CV Axles, Axle seals, and front wheel bearings are worth looking into too.
