1st Gen 4Runner wanted

RBNY

New member
I'm looking to replace the 1986 4Runner I had and loved. Must be manual with the front windows that pivot. I have reasonable expectations but would want it to be able to be driven home and to pass inspection without too much to put into it right away.
I'm in upstate NY.
Thanks,
Roger

I have a 1988 4Runner V6 5spd I'd be willing to part with. The under side is completely rust free, the body has a few little spots that could use some attention. I just put a new radiator in it, flushed the cooling system, and new belts. It runs like a champ. My intention was to restore it and sell it. Recently I've come to terms with all my projects and decided to look at a bigger picture and minimize the smaller projects to build a new garage.

I live in the Poconos in PA. 18661

1988 4Runner

Tell me more.
Does it have the front windows that rotate? How many miles are on it? Does the back window work properly? How much are you asking?
Pictures would be great.
Thanks,
Roger

Hi Roger,

Sorry to say that it does not have the wing window in the door, although as an FYI all the Toyota doors of this body style will accept the wing window parts. So if you found all the tracks and glass you can easily convert them to wing window doors. If you don't mind waiting a day or two I'll get you some pictures. Currently I have some the interior out for cleaning and I'll have to put it back together. The rear window works good, but could use a little lubrication it will only go up and down with the switch on the console but from what I can tell (without taking the gate apart further) the wire is disconnected at the back of the key switch. The rear wiper and washer work good. The front doors are COMPLETELY rust free. It had a new exhaust on it, installed by the PO, unfortunately they did not put a cat back on. The truck has 143k-ish miles on it. The AC works perfect. Clutch could use some bleeding. It has a new cap and rotor, plug wires, and plugs. I Replaced the intake hose with a brand new one. I looked up the service records from Toyota and it just had all it's fluids changed at 109K. Couple odds and ends stuff here and there that need some attention. I'd like to see $3000.00 for it.

Let me know. I'll get some pictures in the meantime.

Thanks,
Pete

Thanks, Pete.
I know it sounds weird, but those wing style windows are really important to me. The truck you have sounds good, and I expect to have to spend money on some repairs on any '80s truck I get right off, but I can't justify spending money on personalizing it - especially to replace something that's already perfectly functional.
I will keep the thought in mind, though. And I'd still like to see photos, if its not too much of a hassle. I just did not want to keep you waiting for a response.

Thanks, again.

Roger,

I completely understand you holding out to get "exactly" what you want. In fact, if this 4runner were black it would never leave my owner ship again. I every "personal/favorite" car I've owned since I turned 15 has been black and I wouldn't want to change that now, at least, until they make something darker. I also want to say thank you for getting back to me so quickly and better yet so honestly. Most people end up being tire kickers that just beat around the bush then never move forward. Let me get a few picture today and I'll get them posted, hopefully between rain drops...

Thanks,
Pete
