1st gen 4runner Flasher removal

I feel like an idiot but I can not get the flasher out. Whats the trick.
Both flasher and blinker stopped working. No lights at all.

Yeah those flasher relays are a pain to get out. I had to get a couple of small flathead screwdrivers and a couple of tiny trim removing tools to finally get mine out. There are actually 4 clips holding it together. Two hold the relay to the fuse panel and two that holds the relay body together. I confused the two for the other two.

As far as I know, the flasher relays are different between '87 and '92. I tried finding a LED ready flasher relay for my '87, but no one makes one cause the connector pins are in an odd configuration.

I never had a flasher be such a pain in the ass. I bought what is supposedly an OEM replacement from oreilys and it clicks but no lights either on the dash or outside. Ill now order one from the dealer.

When I needed an LED compatible flasher for my 81 Trekker I picked up a Tridon flasher from auto zone and just made some short jumpers. It worked fine, just mount the flasher so it doesn't flop around

I tried an Oreily flasher, no luck. OEM flasher and its back to normal emergency flashers and blinkers work again.
