1st Gen blinker mod need help

So I'm doing 4crawler's parking/blinker combo mod (Combined Parking/Turn Signal Lights) and am having trouble with wiring.

To start with, I ordered the sockets off Summit and they came with no information. I don't know which wire is the dim or bright filament. I figured since there was only 2 wires coming out, the ground would need to be on the base. From 4crawlers pictures, it looked like he had the green wires as the ground. So all I did was take the two green wires from the parking light and turn signal, through a ring terminal on them, and attached them to the base of the socket.

When you look at the contact points in the socket, one is bright and polished and the other is a little darker (not polished). So I figured I'd start with connecting the turn signal to the wire with the polished connection and the parking light to the non polished. Everything connected I turned the lights on. Both filaments lit up, but the green arrow in the instrument cluster stayed constantly on. I turned the ignition and hit the blinker.. my entire dash started blinking in unison with the blinker. Also, both filaments on the 1157 light bulb were blinking. I have only done my driver side so when I turn on the passenger side blinker it works normal.

Doing a little research told me that it is most likely a ground problem. So I tried creating a completely separate ground.. didn't help. I tried to find where the stock ground connected with no luck.

I guess I'm just wondering if any of you have any ideas or suggestions? Maybe some info on where the stock ground locations are?

What was what?

Aaaand you're welcome, I've ran this mod for a decade and haven't had issues.

I thought the white wires were power so I hooked them up that way, but the greens are the power. I switched them and they work perfect now. Awesome mod :)

I still don't understand why the bulb lit up though when I grounded the power...

incandescent bulbs aren't polarity sensitive, you can hook up + and - backwards and they'll still work
